Note To Supreme Council of Knights of Columbus

We the undersigned being members of this Council, do hereby assemble ourselves in allegiance with Holy Mother Church, the Holy See, Holy Father, our Diocese and Bishop, our parish and Priest. We though laymen desire to conduct ourselves with a level of devoutness, purity, prowess and honor. We are disheartened and betrayed by the leadership or lack thereof of the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus and State Council of North Carolina and we hereby articulate several grievances that have emerged through the course of inaction, cowardice and disgracefulness in the order.
There have been several instances of inaction by commanding officials of this order. In specifically we are speaking first of the disgraceful memo that was sent to all Grand Knights whereby the Supreme Council did "refuse to allow suspension of members who promote abortion and gay marriage." Supreme Advocate John Marrella's example of bishops who do not "ex- communicate" Catholic politicians who vote in favor of abortion and same-sex marriage for why the K of C cannot "excommunicate" these men is a misnomer. As a Catholic fraternal organization the K of C does not have the authority to "excommunicate" from the Catholic Church any of its members; however, it does have the authority and duty to "discharge" any member whose behavior is a constant scandal to the Catholic faith. What happened to subsidiary? An individual priest would be within his rights to refuse communion to anyone guilty of public sin. Why should a local or state council be prevented from acting as their conscience dictates? Upon initiation, the Chaplain, which is generally the parish priest of the local council decides the “Catholicity” of the candidates the bishop is not consulted, nor is it a requisite. If the Candidate is not a practicing Catholic or is not in communion with the Church they are denied membership. This is the same for members as well, whereas he would have a more familiar involvement with member’s public stance and whether he has been resolved with Holy Mother Church. We are not speaking of an individual’s struggle with sin in general but the public display of support for such issues that are clearly not in line with the Catholic Church or the order. Which to us implies that one maintains not only a belief in but a support of it's tenets with regard to the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death and the Sacrament of Marriage. Nonetheless, laymen can be excommunicated on their own with out a Bishop’s pronouncement by way of their sinful actions and/ or failure to act when it is necessary to do so; such as against abortion or other political views that are contrary to the faith. Therefore public officials who need to be “excommunicated” already are due to their public display of support for such issues that are anti-catholic or go against the teachings of Holy Mother Church. This is referred to in Canon Law (915) as latæ sententiæ. When considered from a moral standpoint, the guilt requisite for the sentence of excommunication implies, first, the full use of reason; second sufficient moral liberty; finally, knowledge of the law and even of the penalty which in this case is Latae Sententiae. It is clear that a public official that continually supports issues that are contrary to Catholic teaching is not going to be in communion with Holy Mother Church whereas we are all Catechized so that we know what it is we are supposed to believe in. In cases such as these the politicians have no excuse; the Bishops who refuse to exercise their duty and right not to allow politicians who act against church teachings to receive communion have no excuse. We as an Order of Catholic Knights have no excuse to not admonish those who are against the very Church we are sworn to defend! By not allowing these self-excommunicated members who publicly support such sins as abortion and gay marriage to participate in council activities is not to be mean, harsh or judgmental but to preserve the very thing it is that we say we are dedicated to defend. No human is perfect but for a knight to say that they are in support of Catholic faith but then supports such things as that which is under discussion is deceitful, and not honorable. This type of action is dishonorable and disgraceful. A real-life slap in the face. By the inaction of Supreme Council or the lack of rescinding the memo and blaming Bishops for inaction on something that said self-excommunicated member is already outside of the normal and moral practice of his faith and has thereby distanced himself from the teachings of the Church and by proxy of the Order; is pure cowardice. We can not excommunicate but we can and should discipline, whether it be through temporary suspension or whatever course of action is necessary and just. Naturally praying for the member is a given and should be in practice; the extra step of discipline is a must.
Another form of inaction experienced is that of the Council of this State in an issue that involved a Fourth Degree Knight publicly humiliating and disrespecting an Ordained priest of Holy Mother Church and even went so far as orchestrating a demonstration and pad locking the parish and not allowing said priest to enter “Church” property. This same knight has since served as Honor Guard at State Convention Masses. In this case the Bishop took action and placed an interdict on the parish and they were publicly admonished by the Bishop. The brother knight should know better, the church is not ours; it belongs to God; the priest is the caretaker of the building the same as of our souls. What blatant disrespect. Inexcusable! As knights we are called to be in solidarity with our priests. We must let it be known that we do not tolerate such behavior from our members. The State Council was asked that to speak out against this, just as His Excellency made his authority be known, so too must we let our courage and solidarity be known. In response we were informed that the official stance of the State Council is that "We will pray for Father". We were told as of now there is nothing that they can do, the Diocese has everything under control. They will support Father and will respond in case of an additional occurrence." Although the State Deputy agreed with us that this incident was the most humiliating thing that can happen to a priest, he assured us that if it gets out of hand then the State will step in and offer their assistance. The situation had already been out of hand and nothing was done to remedy the behavior of the “brother” who was not only a key figure in the act but a ring leader. Nothing was done. The message sent in effect was that it was ok to disrespect a priest of God and publicly humiliate him. Wow! What a chivalrous act indeed! We beg to differ! Failure to do so is in itself scandalous and an act of cowardice! Are we not to have a Catholic backbone? Are we to give in to liberal political agenda? The answer is a resounding NO! This stance will only perpetuate the problem and as stated turn the order into hypocritical cowards.
The State Council has on several occasions employed the use of altar girls at state conventions. While this is a larger issue in which all Catholics should speak out against for obvious reasons, no one does. Without placing judgment on anyone and speaking out of charity; to continue to allow such liberalism at a state level is detrimental to our Catholic faith and to the order. It is the responsibility of the knights to defend every aspect of the faith and it is common sense that altar girls should not be in use and we will not try to argue the point here for this particular document. This would not be an issue if the entire order supported the Traditional Latin Mass. This is the Mass that inspired Catholic Warriors to defend Christendom at the Battle of Lepanto, the Battle of Vienna, during the Holy Crusades, etc. This is the Mass that strengthened centuries upon centuries of martyrs as they were led away to be beheaded, burned or have their guts slit open and their insides ripped out... all for the high crime of being Catholic." The Beauty and Graces offered by the Latin Mass should not be thrown to the way side. It is the Mass that has been used by the Catholic Church for almost 1500 years. One of the great strengths of the Latin Mass is its uniformity. Wherever Catholics go in the world the Latin Mass is exactly the same. The movements and gestures of the Mass are clearly prescribed, so there is no room for "personalization" of the liturgy. This factor alone works hand in hand with Holy Mother Church’s mission of Unity and establishes something for us Catholics to truly and humbly boast. And the time-honored Latin of the Mass reverently reflects the sacrificial nature of the celebration. Most importantly the Latin Mass secures the appropriate level of sanctity and reverence due Our Lord Jesus Christ, who is truly present in the Eucharist, and as such demands such level of respect and reverence by which the Latin Mass is founded. The Second Vatican Council was a true Church council however the massive destruction it has caused is not due to the misinterpretation of the Council's documents, but rather the documents themselves and at the present is grievously harmful to the Faith. The Novus Ordo mass is a valid Mass if done correctly, especially with the new translation and there is no qualm against its use, so long as it is done correctly. By correctly we mean within the proper legality of the mass, absent of such liberal abnormalities such as altar girls, clown masses, hippie masses, jazz dance masses and other abominations and desecrations to the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. We as knights claim to be in support of our priests yet we as an order disobey the Holy Father when it comes to his Motu Proprio on Summorum Pontificum and the regular use of the Traditional Latin Mass. We refuse to be like the rest of those who have been led astray and take up the sword which is the Holy Mass and aim to defend the true teachings of Holy Mother Church.
Lastly the order has become more institutionalized and has ventured away from the ideals laid down by the venerable Fr. McGivney. The KofC claims to stand for life & families, but clearly only stands for the bottom line & profit! In a recent publishing of the top fortune 500 companies, the order was highlighted. It was described as a fraternal benefit society, a company, charity organization and such business like language. Nothing was stated of Catholicity nor was the word Catholic ever utilized. It is apparently obvious that the Order is looking at each situation from a business standpoint and is fearful of losing money, gained by insurance we should look to the code of Chivalry that would not allow the order to act as it is in this instance. It is even more disheartening to hear a field agent propose that without the insurance side of things the order would not survive. The rule of Chivalry expressly requires knights to be a visible example of holiness and moderation. The Templars would not allow any member to remain among them if they went about contrary to the Rule of their order which was written by the Catholic Priest Bernard of Clairvoux. Nonetheless the original motivation of Huge de Payen (the founder of the order) sustained the Temple for a relatively short time. It may be the rapid institutionalization was sufficient in itself to modify the original concept beyond recognition. The order has become institutionalized and will share in the fate of the Templars: extinction, excommunication or censure. Not only because of what it has done; but what those in charge have failed to do just to add bodies to the Order. Every month we hear that we need to recruit more men, what good are new members if they are not worthy to be called a knight. Who would not want to serve in a council full of such hypocrites? We do not, nor will we ask any man to involve himself in such a shameful organization. It would appear that the order indeed has become anything but catholic.
Outrageous cowardice! The Knights have been, and remain irrelevant to the process of restoring the laws and the culture of the United States to be in accord with Catholic moral teaching. Disgraceful! These are the fearless knights? Why can't a local council take courageous action in the face of the national copout and let the chips fall where they may??
Profit is the answer! The order is just pushing itself further towards being just an irrelevant social club. If we cannot do what it is that we say we must do as knights, then we have failed our faith, Holy Mother Church, and God. This just makes us seem cowardly and defeats the purpose.
We declare our intent to preserve Chivalric values of the purest form and to conduct ourselves in such a manner as to be warrior-brothers where the meekness and humility of Catholic life are united with the courage and noble intent of the virtuous knight and shall represent the perfect combination of physical force and inner strength so exalted in ages past but not forgotten. In doing so we must distance ourselves from the Knights of Columbus and hereby withdrawal our membership therein and aim to create and our own order of Chivalry. We shall also preserve, celebrate, promote and support the Traditional Mass and all the traditional teachings of Holy Mother Church. Above all we wish to defend our faith which has been revealed by God and made manifest in the One, Holy, Apostolic Roman Catholic Church through the life, death and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ and through the guidance of the Holy Ghost; and to uphold her teachings and especially her Most Cherished traditions in the Latin Rite. We understand that indeed it is not against enemies in the flesh and blood that we have to fight, but against the Lords, the Powers, the Rulers of the world of darkness, against the evil spirits which inhabit the heavens, yet we stand ready and on guard as a Militia Dei in service and in defense against all enemies of the Church.

This DISSOLUTION OF CHARTER is entered into by and among the officers and members of the Father Michael Irwin Council 9001 (“Council 9001”) of the Knights of Columbus.

W I T N E S S E T H

WHEREAS, the Father Michael Irwin Council 9001 received its charter from the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus on June 4, 1985;

WHEREAS, Council 9001 was formed as a spin off council out of the Dr. John Carr Monk Council 7259 in Newton Grove, North Carolina;

WHEREAS, Council 9001 has maintained good standing with the Supreme Council and the North Carolina State Council of the Knights of Columbus for more than twenty years;

WHEREAS, it is now apparent to the members of Council 9001 that the Knights of Columbus as a national organization is no longer focused on its original mission and that Supreme Council is more concerned with promoting its insurance business and serving the interests of this world rather than being fully Catholic and serving the interests of the Kingdom of Heaven;

WHEREAS, the members of Council 9001 are committed to serving the Catholic Church in true Christian Charity and cannot in good conscience continue to be connected with the lukewarm Catholicism manifested by the Supreme Council over the course of the last ten or more years;

WHEREAS, Council 9001 desires to better utilize its limited resources separate and apart from the oversight and/or influence of Supreme Council and Council 9001 desires to separate itself from the needless frustrations and distractions of membership in the state and national organizations of the Knights of Columbus;

WHEREAS, in order to position itself to better support and serve the salvific mission of the Catholic Church, Council 9001 shall dissolve its charter, sever all ties with Supreme Council and the North Carolina State Council, and shall continue on as a distinct, separate and independent Catholic lay organization.

NOW THEREFORE, the undersigned council hereby submits the following Dissolution of Charter for the purpose of dissolving Father Michael Irwin Council 9001.

1. The name of the council is the Father Michael Irwin Council 9001.

2. The names and titles of the officers are:

It is very discouraging to see the "premiere" Catholic Men's organization (the K of C's) helping destroy souls and the nation, by facilitating homosexual "marriage" (as if this was even a possible concept).

The following shows how those in powerful positions in NY government, and also members of this fabulously wealthy organization (the K of C's), did the devil's bidding.

K of C State Senators Joe Addabbo & David Carlucci cast crucial votes to pass "Gay Marriage" in NY (33-29) on 24/Jun/11. Gay Marriage is now in 5 North East states: CT, MA, NH, NY, VT; also DC, IA, (introduced, later defeated in CA, ME). MA State Deputy Dick Guerriero failed to suspend Pro-Abortion/Pro-Gay pols, but signed an Open Letter endorsing Mitt Romney (R), who introduced Gay Marriage on 17/May/2004, flipped on abortion! On 14/Jun/07, the heavily-Catholic MA Legislature, in Constitutional Convention, voted to defeat the efforts of 170,000 signatories to put traditional marriage on the 2008 ballot. (R) Republicans, others Dems.

K of C claim to be Pro-Life and to be the “Strong right arm of the Church”! This was true when the late John McDevitt was Supreme Knight (1964-1977). Now, Carl Anderson ($1,216,524/yr), SK since 2000 fails to suspend/expel the many Pro-Abortion/Pro-Homosexual K of C pols. In his 2010 Supreme Knight Message to State Conventions video, Anderson never mentioned the Right to Life or marriage. This is grave given that he is a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, the Pontifical Council for the Family and is a USCCB Pro-Life Committee consultant.
SK Virgil Dechant (1977 to 2000. He received $2,164,805 on retirement!), and K of C Board of Directors “refused to capitulate” to Pro-Life Catholics who criticized the Order for not expelling “pro-choice” pols (K of C official history: Faith and Fraternalism, 1992, P451). As a Past SK, Dechant is a lifetime Supreme Director. In Aug 2005, he told Ken Fisher, President of Concerned Roman Catholics of America (CRCOA), that Pro-Abortion pols will “never” be expelled. Patrick Korten, VP for Communications, said that Pro-Abortion members are “few” and “irrelevant” (Boston Herald 11/Aug/07). Joe Mauro, Executive VP Agencies & Marketing ($386,321/yr, retired 2001), said on tape c. 1991, that Pro-Lifers who were writing “thousands and thousands of letters” to K of C HQ seeking to expel Pro-Abortion members, are “...real fanatics out there, radicals...this is the ‘House Rule’...I, I’d prefer you kept silent on the issue (abortion)”.
Supreme Advocate (lawyer) John Marrella ($400,055/yr), wrote on 15/Apr/10 that subordinate councils may not discipline public figures. This is contrary to the Charter Constitution and Laws SEC. 162., which specifies suspension by the State Deputy under SEC. 166. for Giving Scandal etc. No bishop is involved! On 13/Jan/10, w/o legal basis, he directed that members, state/local councils must not contact pols on matters of faith/morals, except as “private citizens”. Marrella & MA SD Michael Baldner got awards from Bp. Arthur Kennedy, Rector of St. John’s Seminary on 4/Dec/10. Fr. Bob Kickham, Cardinal Sean O’Malley’s Secy., is Assoc. K of C Chaplain. Cardinal O’Malley gave Pro-Abortion/Pro-Gay Sen. Ted Kennedy a hero's funeral on 29/Aug/09. He advertised “HOLY WEEK 2010” in Bay Windows, New England’s largest Gay (GLBT) paper. He wasn’t among the 83 US bishops who protested President Barack Obama as Notre Dame’s ’09 Commencement Speaker/Awardee (LifeSiteNews.com). In Dec ’05, he allowed Catholic Charities to award Boston Mayor Tom Menino, a Pro-Abortion Catholic who attends the Gay Pride Parade every June. Fr. Walter Cuenin, K of C, promoted the parade. Boston City Councilors Michael Flaherty & John Tobin, both K of C, marched.

In an April 2011 article titled called to change the world Supreme Knight Anderson writes "As Christians, we can neither blindly accept nor run away from the way things are. In his most recent apostolic exhortation, Verbum Domini, Pope Benedict writes, "The word of God makes us change our concept of realism" (10). We are called to change lives and to transform the world. As Knights of Columbus, we are called to do so by living more completely our principles and by bringing them to life in the lives of others." He then wrote in a January article We Dare Not Forget "In my recent book Beyond a House Divided: The Moral Consensus Ignored by Washington, Wall Street and the Media, I have put forward statistical evidence showing that the American people by a large majority remain committed to the moral foundations of our country. These findings should give us confidence as we continue to promote the traditional moral values that offer the best hope for the future of our nation and the world."

Yet he does not take the necessary steps to correct problems. No matter what is happening in the Church with liberals abound, we should be the last to have problems. We should set the example by being the "right arm" and disciplining members who publicly cause scandal like the above mentioned politicians. They talk about Fraternal correction and prayer. Use the fraternal correction "discipline". Instead They make up excuses and play with words to create the Hypocrisy that is the Knights of Columbus. Fr. McGivney would not be happy right now! We sure ain't!

Knights of Columbus Supreme Council fail again

Catholics cannot be Masons. KofC members Cannot be Masons!

This has been an issue with some men who think that they can be both Mason's and Catholics. Then Cardinal Ratzinger, reaffirms that Catholics cannot be Mason's. There are numerous members of the KofC that are Mason's (I know its unimaginable!) There is even a whole local parish that is a safe haven for Mason's and the Council of said parish is engulfed with Mason's. Say it aint so! I wish I could!

WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES

Council 9001 is not the only Traditional minded Council in the Order. Deo Gratias! As Fr. Z says "brick by brick". We will fight to undo all that those in higher leadership ignorantly destroys. I call for all those who are serious about knighthood, Catholicism and more importantly standing up for Holy Mother Church without hypocrisy and to do what it is we say we will do; to Unite! We must Unite for Truth. We must spread the Catholic Faith, but more importantly show the treasure of the Latin Mass which will unite the entire church as One, Holy and Catholic just like Christ intended. It will not be ignored, Vatican 2 can not save you from it, because Vatican 2 calls for it. More importantly Holy Father Benedict XVI calls for it. The Motu Proprio, Summorum Pontificum is real, it is legal and it is Catholic. Ignore it and you will perish. To disobey the Holy Father is sinful. To brush off the Traditional Latin Mass is probably sinful too. (I'm not a cannonist, nor judge of sins on the soul; just an opinion so don't start boo-hooing yet you nose bleeding liberal you [jk]!) Take up your armor, polish it off, get all that dust off of it that Supreme has coated with many layers and let's tell Supreme Knight Carl Anderson that we will not accept complacency, finger pointing and other weaknesses. Are we Men? Are we Catholic? Are we Knights? If you can answer yes to all Three then act like it! Stand up for Truth! Be Courageous!

We have the benefit of the Latin Mass daily. I challenge all knights that see this to do your part, initiate a Traditional Latin Mass. Encourage parishioners to learn about the Latin Mass and to attend one. It's not that hard. You use a Missal in the Novus Ordo mass, just like you use one int the Latin Mass. So what you will have to learn something new. That is the challenge and fun of it. You will learn so much about your Catholic faith that it will definitely be renewed and strengthened. What are you afraid of? Me personally, Hell! I'll take whatever tool I can get to fight off the Devil, the Father of Lies, the Ancient Serpent who is Satan. In the end the Latin Mass will bring Holy Mother Church back to Her Glory and with Her Treasure the Assaults of the Devil will be constantly repelled! Forever! Got Cajones (Huevos)? Put Christ where your mouth is: IN A STATE OF GRACE, on your knees at the altar rail during a Latin Mass. BE A REAL MAN, PRAY THE ROSARY AND GO TO THE TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS!

I had a note from a good friend, and very active Knight, who is trying to put together an initiative for traditionally-minded Knights of Columbus.

He pointed out that over the last year several posts here announced Masses in the Extraordinary Form sponsored by Knights of Columbus Councils.

For example, in March there was the Mass for the Feast of the Annunciation sponsored by the Harvard Knights in Cambridge. There were also Masses for the First Friday All-Night Vigil sponsored by the Agnus Dei and Regina Coeli Knights in Manhattan. Also, for the Feast of the Annunciation/Incarnation a year ago also in Manhattan.

I am a Knight myself, though I haven’t been very active as a Knight for some time. I am happy to see the Knights supporting the liturgical renewal Pope Benedict XVI has been trying to initiate, especially through the provisions of Summorum Pontificum. If we want to have a renewal of the life of the Church, we must first renew our liturgical worship. That renewal must include use of the provisions of Summorum Pontificum, which were intended for all the faithful (Universae Ecclesiae 8).

But, this got me wondering … how many Councils of the Knights of Columbus are involved in supporting celebrations of Mass in the extraordinary form?

Are any of these councils in touch with each other?

My guess is that they are not networked

So, having had conversation with a friend who is a Knight, and who is interested in carrying forward an initiative to get different Councils talking to each other, if you know of or are involved with a Knights of Columbus Council that supports or sponsors Mass in the extraordinary form, you might send your contact information to this e-mail address tradknight {at] gmail DOT com which my friend set up to put these councils into contact with each other.

Perhaps a first project could be to set up a meeting of members of traditional Councils and organize, say, a Pontifical Mass.

In essence what happened is Supreme Council sent a memo to all local Councils that forbids any action to be taken against members who support legalized abortion or same-sex marriage. This memo was sent after a Massachusetts council sent in a resolution to suspend members who are politicians who gave public support to abortion and same-sex marriage. This was declared inappropriate by Supreme Advocate John Marrella.
Marrella declared that "a subordinate council may not impose fraternal discipline with respect to a public figure's official actions on matters pertaining to faith and morals. Rather, any such discipline must be made by or at the direction of the Supreme Board of Directors. We recognize that some of our members who are public figures may use their public position to advocate or support policy positions that are contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals," Marrella conceded in his letter. He went on to admit that such public advocacy "contradicts the Catholic identity and mission of the Order". Marrella went on to say that the K of C would not go further than the American bishops in taking public action against members whose public stands conflict with Church moral teachings. "If the public figure's bishop has not excommunicated him for his public positions on issues relating to matters of faith and morals, it would be highly inappropriate for the Knights of Columbus to do so,"
Supreme will never oust a member because of his support for abortion. If the local councils are forbidden to act, and the national leadership is unwilling to act, then the disgrace will continue: prominent men who support the killing of the unborn, and go against the Teaching of Holy Mother Church as well as disrespecting clergy will be allowed to parade around in the guise of Catholic knighthood. In reality this is happening even still, on a daily basis. Supreme has allowed the Order to become a business institution, not a Catholic Fraternity. I think Fr. McGivney is rolling in his grave.

I, Grand Knight P. Aguilar sent the following Memo to Supreme, without response...:

As it concerns the memorandum in reference to protocol involving public officials, their counter-faith stance and their membership in the order I must inquire further, as at this point it appears to be unethical, and thereby unlawful. As such I am duty bound by the rules of Chivalry; the annals of knights, crusaders and martyrs who came before me and my faith as a Catholic layman to disobey such a request
Upon initiation, the Chaplain, which is generally the parish priest of the local council decides the “Catholicity” of the candidates the bishop is not consulted, nor is it a requisite. If the Candidate is not a practicing Catholic or is not in communion with the Church they are denied membership. This is the same for members as well, whereas he would have a more familiar involvement with member’s public stance and whether he has been resolved with Holy Mother Church. I am not speaking of an individual’s struggle with sin in general but the public display of support for such issues that are clearly not in line with the Catholic Church. Which to me implies that one maintains not only a belief in but a support of it's tenets with regard to the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death and the Sacrament of Marriage. Nonetheless, laymen can be excommunicated own their own with out a Bishop’s pronouncement by way of their sinful actions and/ or failure to act when it is necessary to do so; such as against abortion or other political views that are contrary to the faith. Therefore public officials who need to be “excommunicated” already are due to their public display of support for such issues that are anti-catholic or go against the teachings of Holy Mother Church. This is referred to in Canon Law as latæ sententiæ. When considered from a moral standpoint, the guilt requisite for the sentence of excommunication implies, first, the full use of reason; second sufficient moral liberty; finally, knowledge of the law and even of the penalty which in this case is Latae Sententiae. It is clear that a public official that continually supports issues that are contrary to Catholic teaching is not going to be in communion with Holy Mother Church whereas we are all Catechized so that we know what it is we are supposed to believe in. In cases such as these the politicians have no excuse; the Bishops who refuse to exercise their duty and right not to allow politicians who act against church teachings to receive communion have no excuse. We as an Order of Christian Knights have no excuse to not admonish those who are against the very Church we are sworn to defend!
I do not intend that the Order judge members’ souls; for that is the place of the Church: not just the bishop, but the priest has that authority to refuse communion. The Order has the responsibility to suspend or ultimately expel members if they are not publicly living up to the ideals of the Church or of the Order and are continually showing public display contrary to same. Again Canon law states: One is not only excommunicated by action of a Bishop. When one PUBLICLY opposes fundamental Church teaching and commits heresy, that person removes himself from the Church and "self-excommunicates." Supreme Advocate John Marrella's example of bishops who do not "ex- communicate" Catholic politicians who vote in favor of abortion and same-sex marriage for why the Order can not "excommunicate" these men is not only a misnomer but a shame to us as Catholic Knights to become so complacent when we are fighting to end abortion. This just makes us seem cowardly and defeats the purpose. As a Catholic fraternal organization the K of C does not have the authority to "excommunicate" from the Catholic Church any of its members; however, it does have the authority and duty to "discharge" any member whose behavior is a constant scandal to the Catholic faith. Failure to do so is in itself scandalous and an act of cowardice! Are we not to have a Catholic backbone? Are we to give in to liberal political agenda? The answer is a resounding NO! This stance will only perpetuate the problem and as stated turn the order into hypocritical cowards. Gerald du Aurillac, a Templar used his social station in a Christian way, that is, by using his power, even military power, no to plunder and pillage but to defend the defenseless people of Christ. These so-called Catholic Politicians have a duty to do the same, even if they are not knights, but especially if they are.
An individual priest would be within his rights to refuse communion to anyone guilty of public sin. Why should a local or state council be prevented from acting as their conscience dictates? I am well in favor for praying for them and even teaching them, however they are grown and should be well aware of their actions and how it jeopardizes their souls. Just like I know my personal sins jeopardize my own soul, but I take measures to frequently correct myself. As a Grand Knight and layperson I am not perfect nor do I purport myself to be without the stain of sin. I know that I am a sinner, however I go to confession on a regular basis, and I publicly uphold the teachings of the church and stand with the Church against such political issues that are contrary to our faith. Famed knight Ramon Lull wrote knights will by definition fail as they are human, but attain their grace in the striving for virtue, for the perseverance of seeking to overcome the vanities of the body and soul, to do what is 'right'. It is a striving for excellence even as we know that perfection is beyond our grasp, but that fact alone does not allow us to stop in our quest for it. Nonetheless, I do not and will not allow anyone who should bring such public shame and disgrace to the Catholic Church or the Order to participate in Council events or share an active roll within the council. What steps then are we to take to keep such shameful and blatant acts of irreverence, heresy and blasphemy from our midst if the Supreme Council decides to bind up the hands of local and state officers? Are we to allow them to continually claim membership and partake actively within our ranks and maintain their obstinacy to Holy Mother Church and those articles of faith, truths that She teaches to us? There must be some sort of consequence for such betrayal! I can only thank God that there are none within my Council (to my knowledge) that publicly support such anti-Catholic views.
Instead of the Order looking at this situation from a business standpoint and be fearful of losing money, gained by insurance we should look to the code of Chivalry that would not allow the order to act as it is in this instance. The rule of Chivalry expressly requires knights to be a visible example of holiness and moderation. The Templars would not allow any member to remain among them if they went about contrary to the Rule of their order which was written by the Catholic Priest Bernard of Clairvoux. Nonetheless the original motivation of Huge de Payen (the founder of the order) sustained the Temple for a relatively short time. It may be the rapid institutionalization was sufficient in itself to modify the original concept beyond recognition. If the leaders of this Order are not careful we too shall share in the fate of the Templars: extinction, excommunication or censure. Is it then the case that we are becoming too institutionalized? I would hope not but as it stands at this moment it would appear we have.
The famous knight Sir Geoffrey d’Charny wrote that piety and Chivalry do not occupy separate spaces in a knight’s consciousness; they are inseparable almost interchangeable qualities in men of war and insists that a good knight can wear his armor as purely and devoutly as any priest wears his vestments for Mass. Moreover, a knight must keep his conduct as thoroughly honest as any priest. He is certain that there can be no contradiction between a worthy knightly vocation and true religion. It is for these very reasons that I must disobey the Supreme Council’s memo. I have been a faithful knight, and a practicing Catholic and will remain so. However I can not sit back and allow anything or anyone to bring disgrace to my council or to this Order. I encourage you to rethink this strategy and will pray that St. Michael will guide us. However you should not bind our hands in doing what is right, just to add bodies to our Order if they are not worthy to be called a knight. I would not want to serve in a council full of such hypocrites, nor will I ask any man to involve himself in such shamefulness. As I stated my council has nothing to fear, nor do I for we are void of such dishonorableness. We have a Chaplain who stands by us and nourishes us in our Spiritual Warfare with Satan and his demons. Strengthened by the Traditional Latin Mass, we will continue to march into battle with our Armor fully polished, without tarnish of any sort. With the sincerest fraternal care I encourage you to do the same.]

The Knights of Columbus must always stand for the vision of faith commended to its first members by Father McGivney. The Knights of Columbus stands for the culture of life. The evils of abortion and euthanasia must be opposed and overcome. But the sanctity of life is also threatened by the false values that may pervade our homes.

Has the KOFC lost its luster? Has the KOFC forgotten it's mission? Has the KOFC became too institutionalized?
YES!!!!!!!! The Only Thing I know to do is to Pray for Supreme Council, to fight for what is right and to let the voice of Truth be heard. We will effect the necessary change or we will let the cancer destroy what is evil and create something better. Which ever is best for Holy Mother Church. Holy Mother Church does not need the Order or its "knights" like they need Her!

Finally the US Bishops grow a set and speak up for something, late though it may be.

Obama's hair-brain scheme
The Obama administration will no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman, Attorney General Eric Holder has announced.

He states While the President opposes DOMA and believes it should be repealed, the Department has defended it in court because we were able to advance reasonable arguments under that rational basis standard. The Justice Department traditionally defends all federal laws against court challenges. But Holder said that if no "reasonable" defense is available (Guess they have not read the Book of Leviticus, or decided to ignore it since the almighty O'bama knows all), his department does not offer such defense. In the case of the DOMA law, he said, no "reasonable" defense is possible.

In his February 23 announcement, Holder said that President Obama had changed his views on DOMA, and "concluded that given a number of factors, including a documented history of discrimination, classifications based on sexual orientation should be subject to a more heightened standard of scrutiny." He said that the President concluded the DOMA legislation "fails to meet that standards and is therefore unconstitutional." (Again, how about the documented history and instruction God reveals to us in the Bible? Not important?)

Consequently, the Department will not defend the constitutionality of Section 3 of DOMA as applied to same-sex married couples in the two cases filed in the Second Circuit. We will, however, remain parties to the cases and continue to represent the interests of the United States throughout the litigation. I have informed Members of Congress of this decision, so Members who wish to defend the statute may pursue that option (Must be their guilty conscience talking: hint to those with a moral backbone still intact, this can not slip quietly into the night). The Department will also work closely with the courts to ensure that Congress has a full and fair opportunity to participate in pending litigation.

The Department has a longstanding practice of defending the constitutionality of duly-enacted statutes if reasonable arguments can be made in their defense. At the same time, the Department in the past has declined to defend statutes despite the availability of professionally responsible arguments, in part because – as here – the Department does not consider every such argument to be a “reasonable” one. Moreover, the Department has declined to defend a statute in cases, like this one, where the President has concluded that the statute is unconstitutional. ( Aren't we glad to have a president that is smarter and knows more than God. We american's sure did pick a winner this time. Oh what a change indeed!)

Much of the legal landscape has changed in the 15 years since Congress passed DOMA. The Supreme Court has ruled that laws criminalizing homosexual conduct are unconstitutional. Congress has repealed the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. Several lower courts have ruled DOMA itself to be unconstitutional. Section 3 of DOMA will continue to remain in effect unless Congress repeals it or there is a final judicial finding that strikes it down, and the President has informed me that the Executive Branch will continue to enforce the law. But while both the wisdom and the legality of Section 3 of DOMA will continue to be the subject of both extensive litigation and public debate, this Administration will no longer assert its constitutionality in court. (So God, All the Jewish clergy, Jesus, All the Roman Catholic Clergy, your grandparents and parents (or parent for most of the US) were all incorrect when they said "two wrongs, don't make a right".)

Bishops Denounce The Presidential Failure to Uphold Law

On Wednesday the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a statement from its Office of General Counsel noting:

"Today, the president has instructed the Department of Justice to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act. Marriage has been understood for millennia and across cultures as the union of one man and one woman.A federal law reiterating that definition of marriage, was passed by a Republican congress and signed by a Democratic president just fifteen years ago. The principal basis for today's decision is that the president considers the law a form of impermissible sexual orientation discrimination. This decision represents an abdication of the responsibility of the executive branch to carry out its constitutional obligation to ensure that the laws of the United States are faithfully executed.. It is also a grave affront to the millions of Americans who both reject unjust discrimination and affirm the unique and inestimable value of marriage as between one man and one woman. Support for actual marriage is not bigotry, but instead an eminently reasonable, common judgment affirming the foundational institution of civil society. Any suggestion by the government that such a judgment represents 'discrimination' is a serious threat to the religious liberty of marriage supporters nationwide." God's definition of marriage is clearly defined in the account of His creation of this basic human relationship in Genesis 2: 22-24:

"And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

A man and A woman are put together to make another human being. A man and a man can't; neither can a woman and a woman.

Catechism 2357 states: Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, 141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." 142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved. (141 Cf. As bishops, we have the obligation to teach and guide the Catholic Faithful whom we shepherd in the Body of Christ. A fundamental teaching of our Church is respect for the sacred gift of life. This teaching flows from the Natural Law and from Divine Revelation.
Life is a gift bestowed upon us by God, a truth underscored by the commandment: "You shall not kill" (Deut 5: 17). The Old Testament also teaches us that human life in the womb is precious to God: "...I formed you in the womb..." (Jer 1: 5). The right to life is a value "which no individual, no majority and no State can ever create, modify or destroy, but must only acknowledge, respect and promote" (Pope John Paul II, Evangelium vitae, 71a). A law, therefore, which legitimizes the direct killing of innocent human beings through abortion is intrinsically unjust, since it is directly opposed to the natural law, to God's revealed commandments, and to the consequent right of every individual to possess life, from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death.
Catholics in political life have the responsibility to exemplify in their public service this teaching of the Church, and to work for the protection of all innocent life. There can be no contradiction between the values bestowed by Baptism and the Catholic Faith, and the public expression of those values. Catholic public officials who consistently support abortion on demand are cooperating with evil in a public manner. By supporting pro-abortion legislation they participate in manifest grave sin, a condition which excludes them from admission to Holy Communion as long as they persist in the pro-abortion stance (cf. Canon 915).
Holy Communion is where Catholics meet as a family in Christ, united by a common faith. Every Catholic is responsible for being properly prepared for this profound union with Christ. Participation in Holy Communion requires certain dispositions on the part of the communicant, namely, perseverance in the life of grace, and communion in the faith of the Church, in the sacraments, and in the hierarchical order of the Church (Pope John Paul II, Ecclesia de Eucharistia, 35-38).
The Church also recognizes that there is a manifest lack of a proper disposition for Holy Communion in those whose outward conduct is "seriously, clearly, and steadfastly contrary" to the Church's moral teaching (Ecclesia de Eucharistia, 37b). A manifest lack of proper disposition for Holy Communion is found to be present in those who consistently support pro-abortion legislation. Because support for pro-abortion legislation is gravely sinful, such persons should not be admitted to Holy Communion.
We also take this opportunity to address all Catholics whose beliefs and conduct do not correspond to the Gospel and to Church teaching. To receive the great gift of God - the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ - we must approach Holy Communion free from mortal sin. Those who are conscious of being in a state of grave sin should avail themselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation before coming to Holy Communion. To partake of the Eucharist is to partake of Christ Himself, and to enter into sacramental communion with our Lord we must all be properly disposed.
Because of the influence that Catholics in public life have on the conduct of our daily lives and on the formation of our nation's future, we declare that Catholics serving in public life espousing positions contrary to the teaching of the Church on the sanctity and inviolability of human life, especially those running for or elected to public office are not to be admitted to Holy Communion in any Catholic church within our jurisdictions: the Archdiocese of Atlanta, the Dioceses of Charleston and Charlotte. Only after reconciliation with the Church has occurred, with the knowledge and consent of the local bishop, and public disavowal of former support for procured abortion, will the individual be permitted to approach the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.
We undertake this action to safeguard the sacred dignity of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, to reassure the faithful, and to save sinners.

A Lifetime of Fraternal Devotion

The year 1933 saw the repeal of Prohibition in the United States, the continuation of the Great Depression, the start of construction on the Golden Gate Bridge, Adolph Hitler grabbing power in Germany, the premiere of King Kong, and FDR’s first fireside chat. Another item that occurred that year that you won’t find in history books, but that did lead to a lifetime of devoted fraternal service, was that John (Jack) A. McLoughlin Jr., a native of West Haven, Conn., became a member of San Salvador Council 1. That was the start of a remarkable 78 years of service to the Order until his passing on Dec. 3, 2010, at the age of 99.
Along with being a member of the Order, McLoughlin was an accountant at the Supreme Council office from 1941 until 1968 when he retired to take an administrative position at Quinnipiac College in Hamden, which was followed by a career at the Yale University Athletic Department. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife Connie, and is survived by his three children and six grandchildren.
“Mr. McLoughlin’s experience stands as a true example of what it means to make membership in the Order an experience of a lifetime,” said Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson. “His life also serves as an exemplary model of service to our Church and the community, something every Knight should strive toward.”
McLoughlin – who maintained his membership in Council 1 even after retiring to Arizona – was active with Ave Maria Council 9380 in Tucson, Ariz. Upon the occasion of his 75th anniversary as a Knight, the council (after finding that the years of active service pins did not go to that high of a level) had a pin especially designed for him.
“Jack moved to Tucson quite a few years ago, but kept his membership in San Salvador Council 1,” said former District Deputy Peter Karculias. “Up to the age of 95, Jack would be found out in front of the grocery store every year collecting money for people with intellectual disabilities campaign – all day long! Only when his health began to fail him and he had to use a wheelchair did he slow down. Still, he attended council functions as often as he could. His dedication and service to the Order and our Lord are an inspiration to us all.”

On Saturday evening, 27 November, in St Peter's Basilica, the Holy Father presided at the celebration of First Vespers of the First Sunday of Advent, on which the Liturgical Year of the Church begins. This year the celebration was preceded by a half-hour Prayer Vigil for unborn life and by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The celebration ended with the Pope's prayer for life and with adoration of the sacrament and the Eucharistic Blessing. The pro-life Prayer Vigil was organized by the Pontifical Council for the Family and similar vigils were celebrated on the same day in Catholic Churches across the world. The following is a translation of the Holy Father's Homily, which was given in Italian.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,With this evening celebration the Lord gives us the grace and joy of opening the new Liturgical Year, starting with its first season: Advent, the period that commemorates the coming of God among us. Every beginning brings a special grace, because it is blessed by the Lord.In this Advent Season we shall be granted once again to experience the closeness of the One who created the world, who guides history and who cared for us to the point of deigning to become a man. This great and fascinating mystery of the God-with-us, indeed, of the God who becomes one of us, is what we shall celebrate in the coming weeks journeying towards holy Christmas. During the Season of Advent we shall feel the Church which takes us by the hand and - in the image of Mary Most Holy, expresses her motherhood, enabling us to experience the joyful expectation of the coming of the Lord, who embraces us all in his love that saves and consoles.While our hearts look forward to the annual celebration of Christ's Birth, the Church's Liturgy directs our gaze to the final goal: our encounter with the Lord who will come in the splendour of glory. For this reason in every Eucharist we "announce his death, proclaim his Resurrection until he comes again", we watch in prayer. The Liturgy does not cease to encourage and support us, putting on our lips, in the days of Advent, the cry with which the whole of Sacred Scripture ends, on the last page of the Revelation to St John: "Come, Lord Jesus" (22:20).Dear brothers and sisters, our gathering this evening for the beginning of the journey through Advent is enriched by another important reason: together with the whole Church we wish to celebrate a solemn prayer vigil for unborn life. I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have accepted this invitation and to those who are specifically dedicated to welcoming and safeguarding human life in its various situations of frailty, especially when it is newly conceived and in its early stages. Precisely, the beginning of the Liturgical Year helps us live anew the expectation of God who took flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary, God who makes himself little, who becomes a child; it speaks to us of the coming of a God who is close, who chose to experience human life from the very beginning in order to save it totally, in its fullness. And so the mystery of Lord's Incarnation and the beginning of human life are closely and harmoniously connected and in tune with each other in the one saving plan of God, the Lord of the life of each and everyone. The Incarnation reveals to us, with intense light and in a surprising way, that every human life has a very lofty and incomparable dignity.In comparison with all the other living beings that populate the earth man has an unmistakable originality. He is presented as the one unique being, endowed with intelligence and free will, as well as consisting of material reality. He lives simultaneously and inseparably in both the spiritual and the corporal dimension. This is also suggested in the text of the First Letter to the Thessalonians that has just been proclaimed: "May the God of peace himself", St Paul writes, "sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" (5:23). We are therefore spirit, soul and body. We are part of this world, tied to the possibilities and limitations of our material condition, while at the same time we are open to an infinite horizon, able to converse with God and to welcome him within us. We are active in earthly realities and through them we are able to perceive God's presence and to reach out to him, Truth, Goodness and absolute Beauty. We savour fragments of life and happiness and yearn for complete fulfilment.God loves us deeply, totally and without making distinctions. He calls us to friendship with him, he makes us part of a reality beyond every imagination and every thought and word: his divine life itself. With feeling and gratitude, let us be aware of the value of every human person's incomparable dignity and of our great responsibility to all. "Christ, the final Adam", the Second Vatican Council states, "by the revelation of the mystery of the Father and his love, fully reveals man to man himself and makes his supreme calling clear… by his Incarnation, the Son of God has in a certain way united himself with each man". (Gaudium et Spes, n. 22).Believing in Jesus Christ also means seeing man in a new way, with trust and hope. Moreover, experience itself and right reason testify that the human being is capable of understanding and of wanting, conscious of himself and free, unrepeatable and irreplaceable, the summit of all earthly realities, and who demands to be recognized as a value in himself and deserves always to be accepted with respect and love. He is entitled not to be treated as an object to be possessed or a thing to be manipulated at will, and not to be exploited as a means for the benefit of others and their interests. The human person is a good in himself and his integral development must always be sought. Love for all, moreover, if it is sincere, tends spontaneously to become preferential attention to the weakest and poorest. This explains the Church's concern for the unborn, the frailest, those most threatened by the selfishness of adults and the clouding of consciences. The Church continually reasserts what the Second Vatican Council declared against abortion and against every violation of unborn life: "from the moment of its conception life must be guarded with the greatest care" (ibid., n. 51). Cultural trends exist that seek to anaesthetize consciences with spurious arguments. With regard to the embryo in the mother's womb, science itself highlights its autonomy, its capacity for interaction with the mother, the coordination of biological processes, the continuity of development, the growing complexity of the organism. It is not an accumulation of biological material but rather of a new living being, dynamic and marvelously ordered, a new individual of the human species. This is what Jesus was in Mary's womb; this is what we all were in our mother's womb. We may say with Tertullian, an ancient Christian writer: "the one who will be a man is one already" (Apologeticum IX, 8), there is no reason not to consider him a person from conception. Unfortunately, even after birth, the lives of children continue to be exposed to neglect, hunger, poverty, disease, abuse, violence and exploitation. The many violations of their rights sorrowfully wound the conscience of every person of good will. In the face of the sad view of injustices committed against human life, before and after birth, I make my own Pope John Paul II's passionate appeal to the responsibility of each and every individual: "respect, protect, love and serve life, every human life! Only in this direction will you find justice, development, true freedom, peace and happiness!" (Encyclical Evangelium vitae, n. 5). I urge politicians, leaders of the economy and of social communications to do everything in their power to promote a culture ever respectful of human life, to obtain favourable conditions and support networks for the acceptance and development of life. Let us entrust our prayers and our commitment to unborn life to the Virgin Mary, who welcomed the Son of God made man with her faith, with her maternal womb, with her attentive care, with her nurturing support, vibrant with love. Let us do so in the Liturgy - which is the place where we live the truth and where truth lives with us - adoring the divine Eucharist in which we contemplate Christ's Body, that Body which took flesh from Mary through the action of the Holy Spirit, and was born of her in Bethlehem for our salvation. As we approach the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Bishop Burbidge has requested that the entire Diocese of Raleigh participate in a novena for my healing through the intercession of Our Lady. Philip is a good friend of the council and of the parish. The novena will begin on November 29th, ending on Our Lady's Feast Day on December 8th.

Keep Christ in Christmas

In a time when all things religious are being discouraged and swept away, it’s refreshing to know that the Order sponsors the “Keep Christ in Christmas” campaign to remind people that Christmas is above all a holy day celebrating the birth of Christ. Keeping Christ in Christmas is keeping the very heart and meaning of the Christmas celebration alive. At Christmas we honor the birth of Jesus Christ. At times our Savior is forgotten in the commercialization of the season and the rush to get ready for holiday festivities. Each year the Knights of Columbus takes a leading role in reminding society that Christmas is first and foremost a holy day. One of the best ways to do this is participating in the Order’s “Keep Christ in Christmas” campaign. Here are some of the things we are doing:
•Urge all members to display a nativity scene on their property or at their place of business if they can.
•Resist the temptation, even when you’re in a rush or short of space, to abbreviate “Christmas” as “Xmas.” Reducing Christ to an “X” trivializes the message of the season.
The Best Presents Can’t Be Wrapped
This holiday season give the gift of yourself within your council, community and family. Give these or similar presents of friendship, understanding, kindness, love and compassion:

•Serve or prepare meals at a soup kitchen.

•Bring presents to children or elderly people in the hospital.

Clean, repair and refurbish a church in a poor neighborhood.

Visit someone who’s shut-in.

•Send a Christmas card to someone you have not seen or talked to in years.

Invite a friend or neighbor who will be alone to share your Christmas celebration.

•Reconcile with a friend or relative with whom you have quarreled. Apologize if you were wrong.

•Provide transportation to shelters for homeless people.

•Wish people you meet a good day and a happy and holy Christmas.

•Get the family together to clean out all the closets and dressers. Donate usable clothing, shoes, blankets and other items to a program for needy families.

•Send care packages to military personnel stationed overseas.

•Sing Christmas carols at nursing homes or hospitals.

•Collect baby clothes, blankets, food, diapers or money and donate these items to an organization that helps needy people.

•Supply car seats or cradles to underprivileged mothers.

•Sponsor a drive for children to donate their old toys to youngsters.

•Be a part of the holiday spirit by undertaking one or more of the items listed above and help make Christmas merry for someone else and yourself.

On September 11, 2001 the United States of America was brutally attacked by Islamic jihadists hell bent on killing as many innocent civilians (men, women and children) as possible. Al-Qaeda, a radical Islamic jihadist organization, took full responsibility for the attack and issued the following ultimatum to the people of the United States...

Withdraw all U.S. troops from Islamic territories.
Stop all support of the Zionist State of Israel.
Convert to Islam.

We rightly answered with the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. We still Support Israel. We will Never convert to Islam!

Let us never forget the lives lost that day, lest their deaths be in vain. Yet we are not afraid.

May God console their families. Give us strength to defeat the enemy.

Lessons from History

We all know that this Saturday with be the 9th anniversary of terrorists attacks on this country by radical Muslims. There has been a lot of controversy this year as tensions rise. With our troops still overseas fighting an unconventional enemy in substandard conditions which are also hard to traverse lest by mode of air.Yet terrorist cells invade America from nearly any point of entrance "unbeknownst" to us. Lately we have seen things from the attempt to build a mosque on ground zero ( which is a direct slap in the face to all who perished there, and a clear rally point for a "victory" of Muslim-sympathizers) and even of a protestant preacher who wants to burn Korans in public. In reference to the later I say let him use his first amendment, they do it. But really what would that solve? Nothing! It's one thing to defend something but to do this would be out of spite and not for the right reasons. Society has shifted whereas all Christians are wrong if they stand up for their faith. Our President does not support us, he sides with them just like he said he would in all of the books he has written, so I'm not the least bit surprised of his actions.Time is coming to an end, where we shall give them what they want. They call it jihad, but I like the sound of Crusade much, much more.

They plot and observe us in every detail and attempt to deride this government and this country; all in the name of Jihad (Islamic Holy War). They burn and bomb churches all over the world. They kill innocent clergymen, who spread the Gospel to the four corners of the earth. They burn our national flag; and seek protection under our First Amendment. They mock Jesus as no more than a prophet, denying Him being God; just as they speak lowly and down right insulting of His Mother (the Mother of God) the Blessed Virgin Mary. All this in the name of "Allah", a God which they proclaim to be the same God that Jews and Christians worship. And at that moment the "BS" flag was raised to the top of the flag pole. Any bumbling idiot should see the contradictory logic of which the Muslims would so instruct their faithful. Clearly if God approved of Jesus and proclaimed Him as the Son of God; which we know to have taken place as He was being Baptized by St. John and furthermore set aside from humanity while still being in and a part of it through the conception via the Holy Spirit upon a woman who Herself was set aside from other women and is the purest of all women, without the stain of original sin. It can not be denied that the "god" they call Allah, is not in any form or being as that of the One True and Triune God!

Muslims are heretics, end of discussion. They are taught in the Koran to convert everyone even unto the sword, which is where they feel justified in the use of violence amongst those outside of their faith called "kafir" or infidel. The Muslim faith was created by none other than that old serpent, the dragon named Satan. It was created for the sole purpose of undermining the Catholic Church and killing its members. It has already affected France where priests can't walk down the street without being spit on and verbally assaulted by so called peaceful Muslims. Are we to be next? History has shown us time and time again that the only force strong enough to defeat Muslims is none other than the Catholic Church, so they work extra hard to chip away at Her steel defenses. But try as they might they can never stop Holy Mother Church!

We Christians are taught to live by Christ's example, and most often eluded to is the "turn the other cheek". Whereas this is very Christ like, He said it Himself; there is also a time to defend our City, the Church Militant, the Church Herself, even down to the dogma and teachings. Just as Kings David, Soloman, and warriors like Joshua took up arms to defend this very concept of national religious merger in Judaic State of Israel so should we defend Holy Mother church if she is encroached upon by such heathens. Holy Mother Church exceeds the boundaries of countries and encompasses the entire world. It is the only vehicle of salvation. All Christians should hear the call and rally around Her (hint to our protestant brethren) because then, and only then will we be so formidable a force to stop the evil that is Islam.

Now the title of the post is lessons from History and that is what I will present here, however the tone needed to be set. Now let us look at several moments in history where the solidarity of the Catholic Faith subdued Islam. The start of the Muslim conquest of the world began around 635 with the Byzantine Empire and can probably be argued as still in progress. Lets start in the year 711 AD. The Moors under command by Tariq Ibn Ziyad from Northern Africa disembarked in Gibraltar and campaigned northward into Spain. After a decisive battle, the Visigothic kingdom collapsed and over the following decade most of the Iberian Peninsula was brought under Muslim occupation, save for mountainous areas in the northwest Galicia, Asturias and largely Basque regions in the Pyrenees. The conquered territory, under the Arabic name al-Andalus, became part of the expanding Umayyad empire. The Muslim force then moved northward into France but luckily was stopped by Charles Martel (Charlemagne) in 732 Ad at the Battle of Tours (Poitiers) and eventually they were only able to control intermittent areas until 975. With no where else to go but south, Muslims began to make Spain a stronghold. That was until 722 at the Battle of Covadonga where Spanish Christians put up a resistance and is known as the start of the Reconquista. This was nearly a period of 800 years. My Surname "Aguilar (eagle-eyed)" originated from this historic event.

Spain at this time was divided into five separate and independent Christian kingdoms and the Muslim Stronghold of Al-Andaluz was at the southernmost tip (Cordoba). Spain as we know it today did not exist as a unified country. They were stricken with internal quarrels and all other human factors to great to go into detail at this time. Soon they were able to unite under the Catholic Faith and began to use the Crusading ideology, and indeed numerous Christians came to participate in the Reconquista as penance. Several Orders of Knighthood were formed; namely Santiago de Compostela, Calatrava and Montesa. Of note however was the formation of Knights Templar sent to Spain. The Reconquista was finished around late 1230's when the Emirate of Granada became a vassal state. However in 1492 their Most Catholic Highness Ferdinand and Isabel launched the Grenada War in order to purge Spain of the Muslims there. This earned them the title Catholic Monarchs. Nonetheless the Catholic Church was needed as the central factor to defeat the Muslims here and it wasn't until then that Spaniards were able to unite.

In 1571 the Battle of Lepanto took place just off of the coast of Greece. This entailed a five hour naval battle between the Holy League (Spain, Italian states, Papal States and the Knights of Malta) against the Ottoman Empire and is known as the battle that saved Christendom. Victory gave the Holy League temporary control over the Mediterranean, protected Rome from invasion, and prevented the Ottomans from advancing further into Europe. It was won because of the simple prayers of the Rosary which were prayed before battle and the men entrusted their selves to the Blessed Virgin Mary as their protector. She, as She always does, interceded on their behalf to Her Son Jesus who in turn granted this miraculous victory. This is clearly defined as a key victory and was successful because the crew relied on the teachings of Holy Mother Church and their Catholic faith.

In 1683 the Battle of Vienna was fought by King of Poland John III Sobieski (Holy League) and the Ottoman Empire. This battle was won by Polish Hussars, German and Austrian forces as the Turks attempted to lay siege to the City. A mass was held before the battle for King John and his nobles. The most extraordinary Cavalry charge was made that day as the Winged Hussars charged into the fight breaking the lines of the exhausted Ottomans causing confusion which turned the tide and resulted in retreat, the cavalry headed straight for the Ottoman camps, while the remaining Vienna garrison joined in the assault resulting in a victory. King Sobieski was famed to have said "Venimus, Vidimus, Deus vincit" - "We came, We saw, God conquered". The battle marked the historic end of the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Europe. King Sobieski using his Catholic Faith had entrusted his kingdom to the Blessed Virgin Mary (Our Lady of Czestochowa) before the battle, Pope Innocent XI then established the feast of the Holy Name of Mary in commemoration of this victory of Christian forces over the Muslim forces of the Ottoman Empire.

The point is to be peaceful, however when it comes time to fight; we fight with the One True God (Father, Son and Holy Ghost), Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Michael and all the Angels and Saints in our corner under the Banner of Holy Mother Church, the true Church, Christ's Bride the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. That's a whole heck of a lot more than a book filled with some desert nomad's opium induced day dream account filled with heresy!

May God soften their hearts, and lead them to the right side, free them from the clutches of the devil, and convert them and the whole world.

St. Michael, Defend Us!

I would like to take this time to thank all of the charter members and those that attempted to keep the council in good standing throughout these 25 years. I can only pray that all the other councils take our example and stand up for our faith, the way it should be! That they should support the Latin Mass, and pray for the conversion of hearts of all the faithful back to Traditional Catholicism.

40 Hours Devotion

Please join us in our 40 Hours Devotion to pray for Philip Johnson. This devotion dates back to about the year 1534. It consists in solemn exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the altar for forty hours. We are going have a 40 Hours Devotion to offer our prayers for Phillip Johnson. Philip is a seminarian who is spending the summer at our parish, Sacred Heart Church in Dunn, NC. He has a brain tumor and will begin a new round of aggressive chemotherapy on June 15th. The 40 Hours Devotion will begin June 10th at the 12:15pm Mass and go till Saturday June 12th at 8am. June 11th is the Feast of the Sacred Heart so we will be praying especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for Phillip.

We are a small parish and we need your help. We need people to come and pray for an hour before the Blessed Sacrament for Philip for the specific intention that he is allowed to live to be a priest. If you would like to reserve an hour you can call the church office at 910-891-1972 from 9:30am to 2:30pm or you can email me at If you can not come to Dunn and pray we are asking that you go before the Blessed Sacrament anywhere in the world for at least one hour during these designated 40 hours and pray that Jesus, would let him live to be a priest.

We are asking that during this hour you would say at least one Rosary and the Litany of the Sacred Heart. We are asking that you pray for Philip through the intercession of Father Thomas Frederick Price, St. Bernadette Soubirous,St. John Vianney, St. Rita and our Blessed Mother.

I Wish You Knew

This post is something out of the ordinary but I came across this and wanted to share it with everyone as it relates to Law Enforcement and interacting with the public. Not everyone knows what it's like to put on a uniform, badge and gun and go to places and deal with people and things that are avoided on an average day by everybody else. We (Law enforcement) deal with a lot and are exposed to a lot of different things that the average public never see or only see on tv. And NO! everything you see on TV is not real, and some of us don't have the capability of CSI! In case you were wondering! Any way here it is:

I wish you could know the frustration I feel in the patrol vehicle, with my foot pressing down hard on the pedal, hitting the air horn again and again, as you fail to yield the right of way at an intersection or in traffic. When you need us however, your first comment upon our arrival will be, "it took you forever to get here!"
I wish you could know my thoughts as I help extricate a girl of teenage years from the remains of her automobile. "What if this was my daughter, sister, my girlfriend, or a friend? What was her parent's reaction going to be when thye opened the door to find a police officer with hat in hand?"
I wish you could know how it feels to walk in the back door and greet my parents and family, not having the heart to tell them that I nearly did not come back from the last call.
I wish you could feel the hurt as people verbally and sometimes physically abuse us or belittle what I do, or as they express their attitudes of "it will never happen to me."
I wish you could understand why we tend to be so cautious and "unfriendly" when we pull you over. And I wish you would not take it so personally.
I wish you could understand the pain of watching someone who wears the same uniform being laid to res after being killed in the line of duty.
I wish you could realize the physical, emotional and mental drain or the missed meals, lost sleep and forgone social activities, in addition to all the tragedy my eyes have seen.
I wish you could understand why we hate it when you look at us and tell your little child, "if you dont behave, I'm going to give you to that policeman." Great, now they're scared of us. So who do you want them to call when things go bad?
I wish you could understand the terror that courses through you veins in the seconds before you make a life and death decision because someone you probably have never met is determined to kill you.
I wish you could understand the frustration of arriving at a call and finding someone with a gun, knowing that you have milliseconds to decide if you need to shoot or not, while after the fact, your actions will be debated for months by many who have never even held a gun.
Unless you have lived this kind of life, you will never truly understand or appreciate who I am, we are, or what our job really means to us...
I wish you could though.

In commemoration of the Death of Jesus, on Good Friday this year, the Council in conjunction with select Hispanic Men of the parish participated in the second annual Cristo Muerto or Dead Christ procession.

The Body of Christ is carried by prominent Hispanic men of the parish.

Christ's Victory Over Sin Chafes Forces of Evil

ROME, APRIL 1, 2010 (Zenit.org).- Every year, the forces of evil get very anxious as we reach Holy Week. After six weeks of purification and prayer, we reach the great celebration of Christ’s victory over sin and our reconciliation with God. Satan is a sore loser.

So the Christian celebration of the Lord’s passion, death and resurrection is accompanied by the yearly ritual of Christ-bashing in the mainstream media. You will recall that just a year ago Newsweek Magazine celebrated Easter with a cover story titled “The Decline and Fall of Christian America,” while the Discovery channel aired a documentary that portrayed Jesus as a political opportunist.

This Lent, the attacks have been more pointed, targeting Christ’s vicar, the Pope. The last few weeks have seen a frenzy of accusations against the clergy, the bishops and the Pope himself regarding cases of sex abuse in Germany, Ireland and the United States. The strategy has been that of pre-Geneva Convention warlords: fire as many shots as possible into the air and hope that something will hit the mark. Since the media are held to no rules of engagement, innocent casualties and wanton destruction are welcomed as tactics to weaken the adversary.

Daily headlines pairing Benedict XVI with sexual abuse reveal little substance and much specious reasoning, while the editorialists have been vying, like bullies in a school yard, to see who can deliver the sharpest kick.

To the secular minded it seems inexplicable that the Holy See doesn’t leap to its own defense, brandishing sheaves of files, swiftly rebutting each accusation, and decrying this defamation from the cupola of St. Peter’s. This is not Rome’s way. Not when the Landsknechts sacked Rome in 1527, forcing Pope Clement VII to flee for his life; not when 86-year-old Pope Pius VI was trundled off by Napoleon and driven around Europe until he died; and not when the Italians claimed Rome and drove Pope Pius IX into exile within the Vatican walls.

There are two main reasons for this. For all their pretensions, newspapers are not a court of law. They are bound to no rules when considering evidence, nor is there a process for establishing the worthiness of witnesses for the prosecution. They can pick and choose what to publish and what to silence, or simply ignore. The media’s self-styled tribunals bring more sales for the editors and more reasons and resources to keep attacking the Church, but little in the way of justice.

Moreover, in media courts, you are assumed guilty until proven innocent. In this arena, the press calls the shots, and slings the mud while all the Holy See can do is wipe it off. Much like the trial of Christ, there is no chance of acquittal here.

Christ’s unjust trial and condemnation, however, never was a story about those who betrayed and beat him. Jesus is the hero and brought out the best in many, even as he went to his death. Simon of Cyrene, who helped bear Christ's burden, Veronica who became the custodian of his image, and even the late convert Longinus, who pierced the side of Christ with his lance -- all these are remembered by name, while the reviling mob and persecutors are lost to history.

The trials of Benedict XVI have similarly produced some heroes. Bill Donahue of the Catholic League has brought the battle to the doors of the newsrooms. Relentless and inexhaustible, he has extracted apologies and forced retractions like David repelling the wolves and lions from his flock.

Among many others: George Weigel, Sean Murphy, Father Raymond de Souza, and most recently, Cardinal Levada himself, have spent hours sifting through each accusation, checking facts and brandishing their writing talents to persuasively rebut each new accusation randomly thrown by the press. Why do they do it? So the Holy Father won’t have to.

The tempestuous fury of the mainstream media stands in sharp contrast to the Roman mood. After record numbers for Palm Sunday Mass, the atmosphere in Rome is prayerful and serene as we approach the Holy Triduum.

While the secular world wrestles with its fascination with sex and scandal, the Christian faithful join the prayers of the Holy Roman Church in this the most blessed time of year. The Pope’s job is not to jump when the New York Times calls, but to reap and distribute the graces won for us by Christ. Here in Rome, that is our fixation.

The often overt hatred of the Catholic Church these days constitutes a last Lenten temptation for us. Like Jesus' three temptations in the desert, Satan offers us three as well: a temptation to despair for the future of the Church, a temptation to turn our attention from our Paschal renewal, and a temptation to despise those who have shown such scorn for our faith and our Holy Father.

Like Jesus, we must resist. It is up to us to remember that our Kingdom already has a news service, and it is the Good News that we proclaim this week.

Knights of Columbus wins Pledge of Allegiance case in Federal Appeals Court

Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upholds constitutionality of "under God" in Pledge

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) -- The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled today that he words "one nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance "do not violate the Establishment Clause" of the First Amendment to the Constitution.

The Knights of Columbus led the campaign to add the words "under God" to the Pledge in the early 1950s, and the trial court agreed to allow the Knights of Columbus to join the present case as defendants when it was originally filed in 2005.

"This decision is a victory for common sense," Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson said. "It is also a welcome reversal of the Ninth Circuit's 2002 decision in a similar case that was ultimately thrown out by the Supreme Court on technical grounds. Today, the Court got it absolutely right: recitation of the Pledge is a patriotic exercise, not a religious prayer. Best of all, the Court said that the words 'under God' add a 'note of importance which a Pledge to our Nation ought to have and which in our culture ceremonial references to God arouse.' Every reasonable person knows that, and today's decision is a breath of fresh air from a court system that has too often seemed to be almost allergic to public references to God. This is a very good day for America," Anderson concluded.

In today's ruling, the Court noted that, "Among the 'self-evident truths' the Framers believed was the concept that all people are entitled to certain inalienable rights given to them by the 'Laws of Nature and Nature's God' and that the purpose of government should be to "secure those rights.'" Such beliefs provide the context in which the words of the Pledge must be understood, the Court said.

The Knights of Columbus and several individual Knights and their families were defendant-intervenors in the case, and the court's 2-1 decision incorporates many of the arguments presented to the Court by The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, a public interest law firm that represented the Knights in the case. Oral arguments before the Ninth Circuit panel had been heard in December 2007. Other defendants in the case included the United States government and a Sacramento-area school district.

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns about health care reform and the reconciliation process. I greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts on these important issues.

Each year, costs associated with our current health care system increase. North Carolinians are struggling to afford insurance coverage, and the unprecedented economic crisis facing our nation has made it still more difficult for working families to manage medical costs while making ends meet. In North Carolina alone, the number of uninsured has risen to approximately 1.8 million, which represents 22 percent of the state's population.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, H.R. 3590, is a fiscally responsible plan that will reduce the deficit by nearly $118 billion in the next 10 years. I have heard from so many North Carolinians who are cut off from health care because of pre-existing conditions. Under this legislation, insurance companies will no longer be able to use 'pre-existing conditions' as an excuse to deny coverage. The bill expands coverage and lowers costs by focusing on prevention and cracking down on fraud and abuse in the system. Additionally, the legislation gives states the authority to form compacts to purchase health insurance across state lines and regionally.

When crafting the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the Senate went to great lengths to ensure that if you have a health insurance plan that you like, you can keep it. Also, the Senate legislation would require Members of Congress and their congressional staff to participate in the Exchange, where the uninsured and other eligible Americans will be able to obtain affordable health coverage.

I understand that you also have concerns regarding the use of reconciliation to pass legislation. The Congressional Budget Act of 1974 created the optional procedure known as the budget reconciliation process, with the chief purpose of enhancing Congress' ability to change current law in order to more effectively control our federal deficit. Under the two-stage process, reconciliation instructions are included in the budget resolution, directing the appropriate committees to develop legislation achieving the desired budgetary outcomes. Under budget reconciliation procedures legislation cannot be filibustered, meaning it only needs 51 votes to pass the Senate. Under regular order, 60 votes are required to end a filibuster. Reconciliation has been used several times in recent years, including passing the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts and the 2007 student loan interest rate reductions.

I believe that regular order is an effective tool to encourage and foster bipartisan cooperation in the consideration of legislation. It allows Senators to find common ground in solving problems facing our nation, through methodically developing and writing bills in committees, and vetting and amending legislation through spirited floor debates. For this reason, it is my strong preference that regular order be followed whenever possible and reconciliation should only be used as a last resort.

Greetings from Te Deum Foundation during this Holy Season of Lent. We appreciate you letter inquiring about the foundation and hope you were able to visit our web site for more information. We hope your council will participate in sending a card to a priest and thank him for the gift of his priesthood during this Year for Priests. Without his Yes we would not have Our Lord present with us today.

It is wonderful to know we have Catholic Knights so loyal to Holy Mother Church and we pray for your perseverance and increase in numbers for many years to come. There is much work to be done and God promises the Shepherds to lead us, if we remain firm in our faith and trust in His Divine Providence. On a personal note, I know well the "front lines" for the Traditional Mass. For several years I was in a leadership role in a Schola Cantorum traveling around North Carolina preserving and teaching Latin music traditions with the council of Father Robert Ferguson.

The mission of the Te Deum Foundation did not begin as a decision to build a seminary in the foothills of North Carolina but as a response to a signal grace which was tried and diserned. All of this was in connection with Our Lady of Fatima and Pope John Paul II. Sister Lucia, one of the three Fatima children, was aware of this project before she died and we often see her intercession working. Mother Angelica has also been a great supporter of this effort and because of our association, her nuns are moving to North Carolina and establishing The Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration St. Joseph Monastery and will pray for our future priests. This is the foundations first fruits.

Pope John Paul II speaks in Pastores Dabo Vobis about seminaries and the environment necessary for men as they journey to the priesthood. This is what we searched for as a location. Our directive is to purchase the land as Phase I. We are in obedience to the will of Bishop Peter J. Jugus who supports the Traditional Latin Mass and as of now we have 9 plus priests in this diocese providing the Traditional Latin mass with more to come. Our future is one of hope and we are confident in the foundation of this project. As in all things, we are obedient to Holy Mother Church and it will be the Rector and Bishops who will direct the seminary.

National Right to Life: Reject Obama's Pro-Abortion Health Care Bill

I strongly urge you to oppose the health care bill passed by the Senate,
H.R. 3590. This bill contains numerous pro-abortion provisions. The
changes recommended by President Obama on February 22 would make the bill
even worse. The bill would allow direct federal funding of abortion on
demand in Community Health Centers, would provide federal subsidies (tax
credits) for purchase of private health plans that cover elective
abortions, and would authorize federal bureaucrats to order private health
plans to cover abortions, among other problems. I urge you to oppose this
bill no matter what assurances or promises are offered that the problems
will somehow be addressed at a later date. Every lawmaker must be
accountable for his or her vote on the bill as it is written.

(Telegraph) - Good news from Rome: the Vatican has further underlined the freedom of priests to celebrate Mass in the Extraordinary Form whenever they choose. Two important points have been clarified by Ecclesia Dei, which will make it more difficult for the English, Welsh and above all Scottish bishops to stall the implementation of Summorum Pontificum:1. A priest does NOT have to be approached by a “stable group” of the faithful in order to schedule a PUBLIC celebration of the Extraordinary Form – he may choose to do so, for example, in order to introduce his parishioners to this ancient form of the Roman Rite. Or because it’s his aunt’s birthday. Any reason, really.2. Thank God for our Holy Father! While rebel priests and bishops from all over the western world seek new ways to twist canon law and thwart the pope's will, the Vatican has now ruled the following. Any Roman Rite Catholic priest may celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass (Tridentine mass, Extraordinary Form or Usus Antiquior) or "Ancient Use" at any time, whenever he wants, for any reason, or no particular reason at all. It can be done privately (with or without guests), or publicly, and it may replace any ordinary mass at any time. The one and only requirement is that the priest be competent to celebrate it, and there are many means through which a priest may attain competency, either through training videos or short workshops.

Pope Benedict XVI has effectively given the Usus Antiquior ("Ancient Use") just as much freedom in the modern Church as the ordinary modern mass. This freedom will prove essential to younger priests, just coming out of the seminaries, who tend to be more traditional in their liturgical practices, and will immediately be confronted by retro-1970s priests serving as rectors, chancellors and bishops. The retro-1970s clergy tend to express an open hostility toward the Usus Antiquior and/or anything having to do with traditional liturgical practices.

That "pressure" may still be there, but the "power" of these retro-1970s throwbacks to do any harm has now been significantly diminished. Young priests, fresh out of the seminaries, can now offer the Usus Antiquior whenever they want, and while they may incur the frowns and glares of their superiors, there is nothing they can lawfully do to stop them anymore. This most recent act by the Vatican signifies that the retro-1970s post-conciliar neopriests are now finally being put out to pasture.

So now there should be no excuses offered. Obey His Holiness, or else! All the Excuses have been eliminated, all the barriers are sent tumbling to the ground! Deo Gratias!

Abortion Remains Obstacle in Health Care Legislation

Many obstacles need to be cleared if the Democrats are to pass their health-care legislation, but one of the toughest will be the persistent issue of abortion. ( It is plain and clear what the solution is so just do it!)

Abortion was one of the final matters to be resolved in December when the Senate created its version of the health-care bill, with a carefully crafted compromise that left neither side in the debate happy. If a final bill is to clear the House, Democrats will have to find a way to finesse the problem again. One idea being floated involves inserting more-restrictive language later into a spending bill. (Finesse? Or you mean BS the public and in essence ignore God's law thereby BS'n God! Wow! Oblasphemer indeed!)

At issue is whether health-insurance policies people would buy with federal subsidies established by the legislation could offer abortion coverage. (Legislation should protect life, liberty and pursuit of happiness not take it away from an innocent and defenseless being) When the House debated its health bill last year, antiabortion Democrats led by Rep. Bart Stupak (D., Mich.) won language prohibiting insurers from selling plans that cover abortion to any person receiving the subsidies. With their votes, the bill passed 220-215 (Good Guys 1, Oblasphemer 0).

The Senate language is less restrictive. It allows insurers to offer abortion coverage as long as customers write a separate check to pay for it, an exercise meant to assure that no federal money goes toward abortion services. That provision was a compromise aimed at satisfying Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, the last Democratic holdout.

But Mr. Stupak said the Senate version left too big a loophole, while abortion-rights supporters argued that in practice, it would be too cumbersome for insurance companies to collect separate checks and they wouldn't cover abortion at all. (Health insurance is to ensure health, right? Abortion ends life, right? Is everybody seeing this?)

At this stage, Democrats' last-ditch effort to save the overall health-care bill must work with the Senate provision.

The path toward passing the bill, given united Republican opposition, goes this way: The House passes the Senate bill, and both sides then approve alterations using a process known as reconciliation, which requires a simple majority in the Senate. Reconciliation can only be used for matters that relate to the federal budget, and abortion doesn't qualify. Thus, the Senate version would stand. (They are going to need Reconcilliation, offered by Holy Mother Church, lest they just fancy the fires of Hell. I'm just saying, it's really hot down there!!)

On Monday, Mr. Stupak called the Senate abortion language "unacceptable." House leaders believe there is a good chance he will vote against the final bill. Democrats estimate that roughly 10 other lawmakers could follow Mr. Stupak's lead, or perhaps more. (abortion is unacceptable period! End of discussion. There is no room for compromise)

To make up for any lost votes, Democrats would need to pick up support from Democrats who voted against the original House measure for reasons unrelated to abortion—either the few liberals who thought that bill was too conservative or the conservatives who thought it was too liberal.

It is also possible Mr. Stupak could be brought on board. One idea being discussed, according to leadership aides, is for congressional leaders to promise to impose new abortion restrictions on the use of federal subsidies through one of the annual spending bills. Mr. Stupak hasn't ruled out a solution along those lines

Church leaders in Iraq have issued a statement demanding government action to end a campaign of violence against Christians in Mosul. A joint message from Catholic and Orthodox prelates calls attention to "a premeditated plan to place pressure on Christian Churches, to achieve a certain agenda." Decrying the failure of government officials to take effective action despite five execution-style murders within a week, the Church leaders said that the lack of security creates "the impression that we are unwanted in this city, which is our homeland."

"We need international intervention to push the central and local government to act immediately,” Archbishop Georges Casmoussa of Mosul told the Fides news service.

Dear Brothers and Sisters!

Each year, on the occasion of Lent, the Church invites us to a sincere review of our life in light of the teachings of the Gospel. This year, I would like to offer you some reflections on the great theme of justice, beginning from the Pauline affirmation: "The justice of God has been manifested through faith in Jesus Christ" (cf. Rm 3, 21-22).

Justice: "dare cuique suum"

First of all, I want to consider the meaning of the term "justice," which in common usage implies "to render to every man his due," according to the famous expression of Ulpian, a Roman jurist of the third century. In reality, however, this classical definition does not specify what "due" is to be rendered to each person. What man needs most cannot be guaranteed to him by law. In order to live life to the full, something more intimate is necessary that can be granted only as a gift: we could say that man lives by that love which only God can communicate since He created the human person in His image and likeness. Material goods are certainly useful and required – indeed Jesus Himself was concerned to heal the sick, feed the crowds that followed Him and surely condemns the indifference that even today forces hundreds of millions into death through lack of food, water and medicine – yet "distributive" justice does not render to the human being the totality of his "due." Just as man needs bread, so does man have even more need of God. Saint Augustine notes: if "justice is that virtue which gives every one his due ... where, then, is the justice of man, when he deserts the true God?" (De civitate Dei, XIX, 21).

What is the Cause of Injustice?

The Evangelist Mark reports the following words of Jesus, which are inserted within the debate at that time regarding what is pure and impure: "There is nothing outside a man which by going into him can defile him; but the things which come out of a man are what defile him … What comes out of a man is what defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts" (Mk 7, 14-15, 20-21). Beyond the immediate question concerning food, we can detect in the reaction of the Pharisees a permanent temptation within man: to situate the origin of evil in an exterior cause. Many modern ideologies deep down have this presupposition: since injustice comes "from outside," in order for justice to reign, it is sufficient to remove the exterior causes that prevent it being achieved. This way of thinking – Jesus warns – is ingenuous and shortsighted. Injustice, the fruit of evil, does not have exclusively external roots; its origin lies in the human heart, where the seeds are found of a mysterious cooperation with evil. With bitterness the Psalmist recognises this: "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me" (Ps 51,7). Indeed, man is weakened by an intense influence, which wounds his capacity to enter into communion with the other.

By nature, he is open to sharing freely, but he finds in his being a strange force of gravity that makes him turn in and affirm himself above and against others: this is egoism, the result of original sin. Adam and Eve, seduced by Satan’s lie, snatching the mysterious fruit against the divine command, replaced the logic of trusting in Love with that of suspicion and competition; the logic of receiving and trustfully expecting from the Other with anxiously seizing and doing on one’s own (cf. Gn 3, 1-6), experiencing, as a consequence, a sense of disquiet and uncertainty. How can man free himself from this selfish influence and open himself to love?

Justice and Sedaqah

At the heart of the wisdom of Israel, we find a profound link between faith in God who "lifts the needy from the ash heap" (Ps 113,7) and justice towards one’s neighbor. The Hebrew word itself that indicates the virtue of justice, sedaqah, expresses this well. Sedaqah, in fact, signifies on the one hand full acceptance of the will of the God of Israel; on the other hand, equity in relation to one’s neighbour (cf. Ex 20, 12-17), especially the poor, the stranger, the orphan and the widow (cf. Dt 10, 18-19). But the two meanings are linked because giving to the poor for the Israelite is none other than restoring what is owed to God, who had pity on the misery of His people. It was not by chance that the gift to Moses of the tablets of the Law on Mount Sinai took place after the crossing of the Red Sea. Listening to the Law presupposes faith in God who first "heard the cry" of His people and "came down to deliver them out of hand of the Egyptians" (cf. Ex 3,8). God is attentive to the cry of the poor and in return asks to be listened to: He asks for justice towards the poor (cf. Sir 4,4-5, 8-9), the stranger (cf. Ex 22,20), the slave (cf. Dt 15, 12-18). In order to enter into justice, it is thus necessary to leave that illusion of self-sufficiency, the profound state of closure, which is the very origin of injustice. In other words, what is needed is an even deeper "exodus" than that accomplished by God with Moses, a liberation of the heart, which the Law on its own is powerless to realize. Does man have any hope of justice then?

Christ, the Justice of God

The Christian Good News responds positively to man’s thirst for justice, as Saint Paul affirms in the Letter to the Romans: "But now the justice of God has been manifested apart from law … the justice of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood, to be received by faith" (3, 21-25).

What then is the justice of Christ? Above all, it is the justice that comes from grace, where it is not man who makes amends, heals himself and others. The fact that "expiation" flows from the "blood" of Christ signifies that it is not man’s sacrifices that free him from the weight of his faults, but the loving act of God who opens Himself in the extreme, even to the point of bearing in Himself the "curse" due to man so as to give in return the "blessing" due to God (cf. Gal 3, 13-14). But this raises an immediate objection: what kind of justice is this where the just man dies for the guilty and the guilty receives in return the blessing due to the just one? Would this not mean that each one receives the contrary of his "due"? In reality, here we discover divine justice, which is so profoundly different from its human counterpart. God has paid for us the price of the exchange in His Son, a price that is truly exorbitant. Before the justice of the Cross, man may rebel for this reveals how man is not a self-sufficient being, but in need of Another in order to realize himself fully. Conversion to Christ, believing in the Gospel, ultimately means this: to exit the illusion of self-sufficiency in order to discover and accept one’s own need – the need of others and God, the need of His forgiveness and His friendship. So we understand how faith is altogether different from a natural, good-feeling, obvious fact: humility is required to accept that I need Another to free me from "what is mine," to give me gratuitously "what is His." This happens especially in the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Thanks to Christ’s action, we may enter into the "greatest" justice, which is that of love (cf. Rm 13, 8-10), the justice that recognises itself in every case more a debtor than a creditor, because it has received more than could ever have been expected.

Strengthened by this very experience, the Christian is moved to contribute to creating just societies, where all receive what is necessary to live according to the dignity proper to the human person and where justice is enlivened by love.

Dear brothers and sisters, Lent culminates in the Paschal Triduum, in which this year, too, we shall celebrate divine justice – the fullness of charity, gift, salvation. May this penitential season be for every Christian a time of authentic conversion and intense knowledge of the mystery of Christ, who came to fulfill every justice. With these sentiments, I cordially impart to all of you my Apostolic Blessing.

Bishop Slattery on Ad Orientam

Bishop Edward Slattery of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has recently returned to the practice of saying Holy Mass ad orientam in his cathedral. In the diocesan periodical he gave an excellent little catechesis on the merits of ad orientam and why the Church ought to return to this posture. Bishop Slattery said:

"From ancient times, in the celebration of the Mass, everyone - celebrant and congregation - faced the same direction, since they were united with Christ in offering to the Father Christ's unique, unrepeatable and acceptable sacrifice. When we study the most ancient liturgical practices of the Church, we find that the priest and people faced in the same direction, usually toward the east, in expectation that when Christ returns, He will return 'from the east.' At Mass, the Church keeps vigil, waiting for that return. This single position is called ad orientam, which simply means 'toward the east.'

Having the priest and people celebrate Mass ad orientam was the liturgical norm for nearly 18 centuries. There must have been solid reasons for the Church to have held on to this posture for so long. And there were! First of all, the Catholic liturgy has always maintained a marvelous adherence to the Apostolic Tradition. We see the Mass, indeed the whole liturgical expression of the Church's life, as something which we have received from the Apostles and which we, in turn, are expected to hand on intact (1 Cor. 11:23).

Secondly, the Church held on to this single eastward position because of the sublime way it reveals the nature of the Mass. Even someone unfamiliar with the Mass who reflected upon the celebrant and the faithful being oriented in the same direction would recognize that the priest stands at the head of the people, sharing in one and the same action, which was-he would note with a moment's longer reflection - and act of worship.

In the last 40 years, however, this shared orientation was lost...The priest faces the people while the people face the priest, even though the Eucharistic Prayer is directed to the Father and not to the people. Unfortunately, this change had a number of unforeseen and largely negative effects. First of all, it was a serious rupture with the Church's ancient tradition. Secondly, it gave the appearance that the priest and the people were engaged with a conversation about God rather than the worship of God. Thirdly, it places an inordinate importance on the personality of the celebrant by placing him on a kind of liturgical stage.

Even before his election as the successor to St. Peter, Pope Benedict has been urging us to draw upon the ancient liturgical practices of the Church to recover a more authentic Catholic worship. For that reason, I have restored the venerable ad orientam position when I celebrate Mass at the Cathedral.

This change ought no to be misconstrued as the Bishop 'turning his back on the faithful,' as if I am being inconsiderate or hostile. Such an interpretation misses the point that, by facing in the same direction, the posture of the celebrant and the congregation make explicit the fact that we journey together to God. Priest and people are on the pilgrimage together.

It would also be a mistaken notion to look at the recovery of this ancient tradition as a mere 'turning back of the clock,'...His Holiness wants us to discover what underlies this ancient tradition and made it viable for so many centuries, namely, the Church's understanding that the worship of the Mass is primarily and essentially the worship which Christ offers to His Father."

My Lady, thank you for your request of support from Council 9001. We are a Council of loyal and faithful knights of Holy Mother Church and to the Holy Father and to the Traditional teachings of the Magisterium of Holy Mother Church; as should be expected of Catholic Knights and Gentlemen, the world over. We are also a Council that is steadfast in the traditions of Holy Mother Church, in particular the promulgation of the Traditional Latin Mass as set out by Holy Father’s Motu Proprio. Vancouver Archbishop Compares Abortion to Slaughter of the Innocents

VANCOUVER, January 12, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In his homily for the annual pro-life Mass on December 28, Vancouver Archbishop Michael Miller began by expressing his gratitude to pro-lifers “for your willingness not just to affirm the sacrosanct value of every human life but to work and pray that this value be recognized as absolutely necessary to the common good of society.”

The Mass was celebrated on December 28 – the feast of the Holy Innocents – which commemorates the babies slain in Bethlehem as King Herod sought to kill the Christ child.

“Herod distinguished himself by the cold-blooded murder of innocent babies, in a vain effort to secure his throne against any rivals,” said Archbishop Miller. “We do not know their number, but they are venerated as martyrs because they died in the place of Christ. In a similar way we can consider all the unborn who die in the womb as silent witnesses to Christ and his infinite power to save.”

The Vancouver Archbishop said: “All too often in our country crimes against life are supported by government, certain professions and public opinion.” He noted the irony that while Canada is such a great promoter of human rights, “the most basic human right, ‘the right to life, is being denied or trampled upon, especially at the more significant moments of existence: the moment of birth and the moment of death.’”

While the archbishop admitted that the pro-life struggle in Canada “is an enormous task, one fraught with difficulties and setbacks,” he stressed, “we dare not lose hope.”

“The innocents slaughtered in our day should not occasion despair in us. We are part of a struggle that goes back to the murder of Cain – but we also have the palm of victory in our hands … If there are bloody Herods in our day, there are also joyful angel choirs, singing for the birth of each child destined for eternal life.”

“With the coming of Christ new value is placed on human life,” Archbishop Miller explained. “In Christ we are made even more aware that each and every human being is made in the image and likeness of God; that each and every human being is unique, precious and unrepeatable.”

Pro-lifers he said, “have an irreplaceable role to play: we need – the Church needs, society needs – evangelists, heralds, of life, people willing to confront the weakness of a culture which has trivialized the gift of life.”

The Archbishop cautioned, however, that “we do not approach those who are straying with feelings of arrogance or self-righteousness.” He explained: “The fact that we know that we are right about the sacred value of human life should make us humble and more determined to spread this message by the love shown in our lives and our willingness to be servants of life.”

Concluding his message, Archbishop Miller prayed “that our efforts will be sustained so that we may have the courage to bring about a renewed respect for human life in Canada, build a culture of life, protect the innocents of our day and comfort those who mourn.”

U.S. Knights Urged to Oppose Abortion

Both the House and the Senate approved versions of health care reform legislation before leaving Washington for a Christmas break. A House-Senate conference committee will negotiate a single version of the bill upon their return this month (the House returns on January 12 and the Senate returns on January 19).

Knights and their families are strongly urged to contact their Senators and Congressmen during the recess, and ask that they support the House language authored by Representative (and brother Knight) Bart Stupak (D-MI), which retains the long-standing policy against federal funding of abortion. Stupak’s language was approved by a strong bipartisan majority in the House.

The Senate version of the health care reform bill does not ban abortion funding, and the American Catholic bishops oppose it: under the Senate version, “federal funds will help subsidize, and in some cases a federal agency will facilitate and promote, health plans that cover elective abortions,” the bishops said.

Contacting Senators and Representatives at their home district offices during the recess is an especially effective way of making them aware of your views on the abortion funding and conscience protection issues. The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship

Since 1972, councils have sponsored the Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship for boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14.
The championship is set up to have the contestants compete within their own gender and age group. All competition starts at the local level. Winners move on to the district, regional, and state or province levels. From there, some make it to t he international level for championship competition in their group.

After Hand-Off on the Mexico-US Border, the Final of Leg of the 50th “Running of the Silver Rose” Begins.

Laredo, TX – Three silver roses were exchanged on the International Bridge on the border between the United States and Mexico, on Thursday. It is the first in a series of events sponsored by the Knights of Columbus to commemorate the 50th running of the silver rose and the 478th anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12.

The “Running of the Silver Rose” began in 1960 as an initiative of the members of the Columbian Squires, the youth arm of the Knights of Columbus. The roses, symbols of unity among the peoples in the Americas, are also symbols of the pro-life movement of which the Knights is heavily involved. The program’s devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe stems from the fact that she is considered the patroness of the pro-life movement.

The roses began their journey in Canada last May, and spent the last six months traveling throughout the western, central, and eastern corridors of North America, with Knights of Columbus from Canada to Mexico carrying them from destination to destination.

On the morning of December 10th, runners carrying the roses began the final leg of the 50th “Running of the Silver Rose.” Their journey will conclude in Mexico City at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Saturday where the roses will be presented to Our Lady.

Each part of the bouquet has an important meaning. The five roses (one of the three is a bouquet of three roses) represent the five decades in which this tradition has been in place. The seven guides carrying the roses represent the sacraments of the Catholic faith and the ways to approach God. The thorns represent all the efforts and sacrifices of the Columbian Squires and Knights of Columbus along the way. And the strong stem represents faith.

Also in attendance at these events is Monsignor Eduardo Chavez, postulator for the cause for canonization of St. Juan Diego to whom Our Lady appeared on that fateful day in 1531. Msgr. Chavez recently co-authored a New York Times best selling book with Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson entitled: Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of the Civilization of Love, which reached number 6 on the bestseller list this August. (For more information on the book, visit guadalupebook.com )

Last August, the Knights of Columbus also sponsored the first ever International Marian Congress devoted entirely to Our Lady of Guadalupe this summer in Phoenix, AZ. I strongly suggest that everyone read it in full. You will be shocked at just how false the whole notion of "Hitler's Pope" is. Msgr. DiGiovanni documents how of all sources, the New York Times, between '45 and '60 chronicled just what Pope Pius XII did during the war years to combat nazism throughout the world and save as many Jewish lives as he could while at the same time not recklessly endangering the lives of Catholics in occupied territory. Afterall, the Catholic Church alone lost more than 3 million souls during the Holocaust. Pius XII was nothing short of a hero. In short, the idea of "Hitler's Pope" was first maliciously invented by the Soviets during the '50's as a means to deligitimize the Church in the Soviet's attempt to spread its tenacles around the world and solidify its control of Eastern Europe. The more you actually learn about Pius XII the more you realize that Western liberal elites like that smear merchant Cornwell have done nothing more than pick up where the Soviets left off in order to deligitimize Pre-Conciliar Catholicism.

May this post greet each of you this Christmas season with all the love and kindness that God has bestowed in us through His only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Even in the darkness and gloom and despair of the times, let us not fall victim to the desolation of secularism.
Let us remember why we celebrate Christmas: Natus est nobis Salvator Mundi! The Savior of the world is born! Though we are all sinners, especially me most of all; God has never once abandoned us. Yet we abandon Him, on a daily basis. I know I do. May He give us the grace not to focus on the secular giving of gifts but rather the sprititual giving of our hearts to God, and our helping hand to our brothers and sisters in Christ, and most importantly to our priests. Let us pray that God provides us with holy seminarians that will become holy priests, that he restores the priests we have to their steadfastness in leading the faithfull according to the true teachings and traditions of Holy Mother Church and that he keeps them of sound mind and health to fullfill their ordained mission on earth; the care of our souls. Let us also pray for the continuing worldwide propagation of the Tridentine Mass and hope for the conversion of our protestant brethren and especially the muslims. Lastly let us ask for the strength and courage to stand alongside our Holy Mother Church and defend Her daily, and to withstand the assaults of Her enemies; God's enemies, so that on the day of our testing we shall not flinch but look evil in the eye and wield our knightly swords beheading that which is evil!

I noticed this sign the other day posted by our lost brethren. It made me think of the Holy Eucharist and Holy Mass. That indeed is something that we as Catholics should be thankful for. It is my understanding that protestants "celebrate" the remembrance of the Last Supper. However they do not partake of the full benefits that we as Catholics are quite privy too, if we are in a state of grace. They ignorantly deny His Real Presence. This "community thanksgiving dinner" is what we Catholic's call the Holy Mass. Convert and experience the Real Presence. Then you shall see the way, the truth, the light: Jesus Christ. And upon completion of conversion you too can share in the 2000 year tradition and graces only found in Holy Mother Church. Why settle for a fake. Would you waste your money on a fake Rolex or a fake BMW or Mercedes. Nope! I would rather invest in something real and tangible like the Catholic faith because when your soul is on the line, you might want to be right.

The Holy Mass is the highest form of worship. It is the sacrifice of Calvary renewed. One mass gives God more praises and thanksgiving, make more atonement for sin, and pleads more eloquently than does the combined and eternal worship of all the souls in heaven, earth and in purgatory. The Tridentine Mass especially, although it is often scoffed at because of its use of Latin. People freeze and get scared. They only have to learn enough Latin to understand whats going on. I mean that's why a Missal was produced. You can buy one for personal study, or use the church's. It may seem overwhelming, but it is so beautiful. More that than touchy feely, holding hands during the Our Father, desecration of a mass: Novus Ordo. In the words of my fellow Traditional Catholic, the Caveman:

"This Mass (Tridentine) goes back 1,500 years. You can't get much more traditional than that. This is the Mass whose roots, the words of Consecration itself, goes all the way back to the exact words used by Sts. Peter and Paul when they preached in pagan Rome.

This is the Mass that inspired Catholic Warriors to defend Christendom at the Battle of Lepanto, the Battle of Vienna, during the Holy Crusades, etc. This is the Mass that strengthened centuries upon centuries of martyrs as they were led away to be beheaded, burned or have their guts slit open and their insides ripped out... all for the high crime of being Catholic."

In the Holy Mass, it IS Jesus Christ, God as well as Man, who is our intercessor, our Priest, and our Victim. Jesus is truly present in body, soul and divinity. In about the 700th year of Our Lord, in a monestary, a priest of the Order of St. Basil was celebrating the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Tridentine form. He had been suffering from the recurring doubts concerning the mystery of transubstantiation (the changing of the bread and wine to the body and blood of Christ). After he spoke the solemn words of consecration the host was suddenly changed into a circle of flesh and the wine transformed into blood. Many verification of this miricle have been performed. the most recent was in 1971 where in a detailed medical and scientific terminology the conclusion was held that: the flesh was indentified as striated muscular tissue of the myocardium (heart wall) having no trace whatsoever of materials or agents used to preserve the flesh from decay. Both the flesh and blood were found to be of human origin and classified as type AB. This is the miracle of Lanciano. The relics are in Church of St. Francis, Lanciano Italy.

We as Catholics have the benefit of attending mass everyday of the week for as long as we have priests. Unlike the protestants who cut themselves off from the benefits of the Mass. Let us pray for their conversion, and for the souls of those in purgatory. Nobody would think about them, but they are there. I bet if they could they would assist in the conversion of their protestant family members, for their sake and the sake of those living outside of the graces of Holy Mother Chuch. I'm sure we haven't heard this enough but we need to pray for our priests, and for our future priests the seminarians. We need more Holy, devout, traditional priests to serve the Tridentine Mass.

Thanksgiving although it is known as a federal holiday is not a holiday. Since 1621, when the Plymouth colonists and their native neighbors shared their first thanksgiving feast, people have gathered to give thanks. Thanksgiving is the very first national "holiday", proclaimed by President George Washington in 1789 as “a day of public thanksgiving and prayer. President Abraham Lincoln revived the Thanksgiving tradition during the Civil War. He asked God to “heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility, and Union. A Holiday refers to a Holy Day of Obligation in which Holy Mother Church mandates that we are obliged to attend Mass. Let us this year show our thanks to God for all that he has provided for us, and shall continue to provide for us. Let us pray for our servicemen overseas, or nation, and its political leaders that they shall make decisions that are just but also morally adventageous. Especially from a Catholic standpoint. Most importantly let us be thankful for being Catholic and being able to worship via Holy Mass in the Latin rite.

Thank You God for giving us priests that are dedicated to the propogation of the Tridentine Mass! Provide us with an abundance of priests of like dedication.

Poland Defends Right to Keep Crucifixes in Schools

WARSAW, Poland — Heavily Catholic Poland has joined the Vatican in criticizing a European court ruling against the display of crucifixes in Italian schools.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski said his country will never agree to remove crosses from its schools.

The Nov. 3 ruling by the European Court of Human Rights does not require that Poland remove the crosses that hang in most public schools. It could, however, eventually force a review of the use of religious symbols in government-run school across Europe.

The decision touched a nerve in Poland, where religious symbols were banned from public buildings under communist rule but embraced with the return to democracy 20 years ago as an expression of national sovereignty.

During Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday in Warsaw, Kaczynski said that "nobody in Poland will accept the message that you can't hang crosses in schools."

"One shouldn't count on that. Perhaps elsewhere, but never in Poland," said Kaczynski.

Lech Walesa, the pro-democracy dissident and former president — himself a believer who often wears a pin of St. Mary on his lapel — also defended his country's right to display a symbol central to the nation's Christian heritage.

"Minorities must know their place," Walesa said on Thursday during an interview with a TVN24 television station. "We must respect minorities but also protect the rights of the majority."

About 90 percent of Poles are Catholic, and regular church attendance today remains much higher than in more secular Western Europe.

Poles' strong identification with the church goes back centuries but in recent decades has been strengthened by Polish-born Pope John Paul II, who led the church for 27 years until his death in 2005.

The Vatican has also denounced the European court's ruling.

Go Poland! If only we could collectively tell Mr. Obama the same thing. We want change alright, just not the social-nazi-ism that he is trying to give us. There is one thing he will learn, don't mess with the Vatican!

Supreme Knight Receives Rome’s ‘Lupa Capitolina’ Award

The mayor of Rome bestowed a prominent honor on Supreme Knight Carl Anderson in recognition of the Order's long-standing contributions to the city.

In honor of nearly 90 years of service by the Knights of Columbus in Rome, the city honored the head of the Order with its ‘Lupa Capitolina’ award October 28.

Supreme Knight Carl Anderson received the award from Rome’s mayor, Giovanni Alemanno, Wednesday, October 28.

“I am honored to receive this award from the City of Rome for the great work the Knights of Columbus have done there for nearly a century,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “As both the ,‘ eternal city’ and the center of the Catholic Church, Rome has a special place in the hearts of the Knights of Columbus, and we look forward to another 90 years of service in this great city.”

The Knights have been active in Rome since 1920, when a delegation of Knights led by the then Supreme Knight James Flaherty met with Pope Benedict XV. The Pontiff encouraged the Knights to expand their work in Rome.

Later that decade, the Knights opened several recreational facilities use by the youth of Rome. An additional facility was opened in the 1950s.

Today, the Knights continue to operate four of these facilities, which are regularly used by the young residents of Rome. In 1965, the grounds of one of the facilities was donated by the Order for the construction of a papal audience hall, where the pope regularly receives pilgrims visiting the Eternal City.

On saturday December 5th council 9001will participate in the City of Dunn Christmas parade! The float is under construction. Help us to keep Christ in Christmas and bring a lot of Catholicism to the streets of Harnett County.

Since Holy Father proclaimed this the year of the priest; on december 12th the council will have a seminarian appreciation dinner. We will honor our future priests and show them we care. Tickets will be sold by knights this month at each mass. The cost is $7.00 the menu will consist of spaghetti and salad. We will also receive payment at the door. The dinner will take place after the 5:30pm mass. Proceeds will fund the seminarian scholarship (RSVP) to assist them financialy. Knights Celebrate Fifth Anniversary of Pro-life Retreat Center with New Stained-glass Window

The Knights of Columbus, together with the Sisters of Life, recently celebrated the fifth anniversary of the dedication of Villa Maria Guadalupe, an international pro-life retreat center.

In addition to a votive Mass to Our Lady of Guadalupe, a new stained-glass window of the Virgin of Tepeyac was unveiled and dedicated.

Located in rural Stamford, Conn., Villa Maria Guadalupe is a collaborative effort of the Knights of Columbus and the Sisters of Life. Dedicated Oct. 20, 2004, the Villa Maria sponsors a variety of retreats and events in an effort to build and foster a Culture of Life.

Its mission is to be a place of healing, hope and renewal for all who seek to know and live the Gospel of Life.

John Cardinal O’Connor, former archbishop of New York and founder of the Sisters of Life, had a longing for such a retreat center. As a champion of the unborn, he sought the creation of such a facility where the true love and peace of Christ could be sought and experienced, away from contentious and political dimensions that often characterize the pro-life movement.

The rest, quiet and prayer at Villa Maria Guadalupe strengthens retreatants, deepens their spiritual lives and helps them to more fully be “people of life and for life.”

REFUND SUPPORT VOCATION PROGRAM
Our council not only supports our seminarians with motivational things like letters, phone calls and kind words of encouragement and appreciation, prayers for his devout vocation and steadfastness to the truths of our faith. Every year we help with a little gift of good ole American greenbacks as well. We show our support of the R.S.V.P. program sponsored by Supreme and we always invite our seminarians over for the holidays like around Christmas and surprise him with a donation from the council but also from our own pockets. We pool our money together and give him an additional gift on top of the $500.00 from the R.S.V.P check. We are glad to have them serve at Mass, and treat him for his special sacrifice to the Diocese. In short he returns back to his studies recharged and ready to one day be called Father.

We will be planning future events to help raise money in support of vocations, so keep tuned in!

Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. T he word Rosary means "Crown of Roses". The Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because within it lays the awesome story of our salvation. With the Rosary in fact we meditate the mysteries of joy, of sorrow and the glory of Jesus and Mary. It's a simple prayer, humble so much like Mary. It's a prayer we can all say together with Her, the Mother of God. With the Hail Mary we invite Her to pray for us. Our Lady always grants our request. She joins Her prayer to ours. Therefore it becomes ever more useful, because what Mary asks She always receives, Jesus can never say no to whatever His Mother asks for. In every apparition, the heavenly Mother has invited us to say the Rosary as a powerful weapon against evil, to bring us to true peace. Each day, through prayer we can drive away from ourselves and from our homeland many dangers and many evils.
In our initiation in this Order we pledged to pray the Rosary, and with good reason. Inspired by the confidence, and trusting in the truths of Holy Mother Church what better way is there for us to pray than by praying the Rosary. There are also a great number of indulgences that are available by praying in a group, especially before Mass and upon praying for the intentions of Holy Father. Our Council has stepped up to the plate and has taken charge in leading our parish and our own families in praying the Rosary; not only before Mass but in our homes, at our jobs.
We have organized a schedule, approved by Father where Knights lead the parish in praying the Rosary at all three Sunday Masses. We have been so successful in leading this Rosary devotion, and we are dedicated to its cause. We pray with such fervor, especially for the Unity of Holy Mother Church and her priests. We as Catholic Gentlemen show our allegiance to the true teachings of Holy Mother Church, and our solidarity to our parish priest and take the lead as an example of our manhood, and ultimately or Knighthood.

Operation L.A.M.B. Tootsie Roll drive

Every year as it comes close to the time to put on our aprons and pass out Tootsie Rolls at our local WalMart we are reminded why it is that we do what we do. Op. Lamb was started in 1974 with its main purpose to raise money for mentally handicapped citizens. Since it's inception it has contributed a substantial amount of money. We spend three grueling days at a time in the sun, sometimes cold. We are greeted by warm smiles by some, sneered at by others and yet even ignored by many as we stand with our collection cans in one hand and our Tootsie Rolls in another.
Even as we are ridiculed by the few we are praised by many who approach us and thank is for helping one of their loved ones who struggles with mental illness. It is in that very moment that new knights are given consolation in what they are doing is good, old knights are re-energized; families are invited to pitch in and share these experiences. The community as well has seen our council at work and for those that don't know us stop by and ask. This leads to us spreading the truths of our Catholic faith, and is a testament to the endeavors of the Order.
With just this one project we are able to do so much and cover so many of our goals and Catholic Knights. Pledge victory in federal court

MANCHESTER, NH) - The Knights of Columbus scored an important victory in federal court in New Hampshire on Wednesday, September 30, when U.S. District Judge Steven McAuliffe upheld the constitutionality of the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Atheist Michael Newdow had filed the lawsuit against the school system in Hanover, New Hampshire on behalf of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, in a case that mirrored his earlier lawsuit against schools in and near Sacramento, California.

As with the California case, the Knights of Columbus sought and received permission from the court to become a "defendant intervenor," allowing attorneys representing the Order (from the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty) to participate directly in the court proceedings.

Since its inception in 1974, the LAMB Foundation of North Carolina has raised over $19 million dollars to assist people with intellectual disabilities.

The LAMB Foundation is a 501(c)3 public charity and an entirely volunteer organization named from a quotation from Matthew 24:40: ""…whatsoever you do to the Least Among My Brethren, that you do also to me."

It is also the main charity supported by the Knights of Columbus throughout the state. Each year the Knights, their families and friends stand long hours outside shopping centers where they offer free Tootsie Rolls to all passersby and ask for donations to assist groups that aid those with intellectual disabilities. Their smiling faces and bright yellow aprons have become familiar sights throughout this great state.

Another important aspect of the Foundation's fundraising comes from the generosity of corporate and individual donations.
Thanks to that generosity in 2008 alone, LAMB raised just under one million dollars.

As an all- volunteer effort, over 92% of the funds raised go directly to program funding. 85% of the total donations is given to local charities and the remaining 15% is distributed by the Foundation to regional entities assisting those with intellectual disabilities.

Tribunal Submits Additional Information About Reported McGivney Miracle to Vatican

Officials of a supplemental Tribunal constituted by the Archdiocese of Hartford have formally sent a new report to the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints. The tribunal – a panel tasked with gathering additional testimony – interviewed additional witnesses, including several medical doctors, about the circumstances of a reported miracle attributed to Venerable Michael McGivney’s intercession. The report was signed and presented to Archbishop Henry Mansell on Sept. 22 and was affixed with the seal of the Archbishop of Hartford. The Postulator of the Cause, Dr. Andrea Ambrosi, travelled from Rome to Hartford for the occasion. The event was held in the chapel at the Chancery of the Archdiocese and was attended by Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, other Supreme Officers, relatives of Father McGivney and archdiocesan officials.

Knights of Columbus to Promote Volunteerism in 9/11 Tribute

The Knights of Columbus, one of the nation's most active volunteer service organizations - and the world's largest lay Catholic organization - will air a unique 60-second 9/11 tribute ad during NBC-TV's broadcast of the inaugural game of the NFL's 2009 season on Thursday night, Sept. 10.

The piece will run during halftime of the 8:30 p.m. ET game, which will feature the Tennessee Titans and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The spot will run in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Dallas.

Recalling the heroism displayed on 9/11, the 60-second spot reminds Americans that "we can still see the best in humanity today," if we "give back."

The spot directs viewers to www.servicetogether.org - a Web site with resources for volunteers and volunteer organizations.

The importance of giving is captured in the commercial through the story of 9/11 hero Capt. Al Fuentes of the FDNY Marine Division. Capt. Fuentes, now retired, was buried in the rubble of World Trade Center for nearly two hours before being rescued by his fellow firefighters.

"What I have been given is another chance," Fuentes recounts in the piece. "I need to, and I will, give back: that is what the Knights of Columbus have always shown me for 38 years."

The Knights of Columbus produced the ad as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks and as a reminder of the importance of keeping their heroic spirit of service alive.

The spot concludes by listing a new Web site, www.servicetogether.org, set up by the Knights of Columbus to help volunteers find organizations that can put their talents to good use, and includes resources to help volunteer organizations work more effectively with the volunteers they have.

"We will never forget the tragedy of September 11, 2001," said Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus. "But we also must not lose sight of the heroic giving spirit of that motivated the heroes of 9/11 and those who volunteered in its aftermath. The problems we face today are different from those of 2001, but the need for service to our neighbor remains the same: it is truly, 'the best of humanity.'"

In addition to the game on Sept. 10, the piece will run during NBC's regional coverage of NFL games on Sunday, Sept. 13 in the same cities, and in New York, Dallas and Los Angeles during the PGA tournament.

One of the nation's most active charities, last year the Knights of Columbus donated more than $150 million and nearly 69 million hours of service to charitable causes.

The Knights of Columbus was one of the first organizations to organize a response to 9/11. On Sept. 12, 2001, the Knights of Columbus launched the "Heroes Fund" which provided emergency funding - without red-tape - to the families of fallen police, firefighters and emergency services personnel. How the Hyde Amendment is Under Attack and Why You Should Care
One of our greatest concerns about the current health care reform proposals is that they would circumvent the Hyde Amendment, which thanks in part to legal efforts by AUL has prevented abortions from being funded through Medicaid.
In the years leading up to Roe v. Wade, Medicaid began paying for abortions as many as 300,000 per year by 1976. In September of that year, Congress passed the Hyde Amendment, which restricted the use of taxpayer dollars for elective abortions. Not surprisingly, the Hyde Amendment was swiftly challenged in court. A four-year court battle over the Amendment’s constitutionality culminated in Harris v. McRae, where AUL’s Vice Chairman, Victor Rosenblum, successfully defended its constitutionality before the United States Supreme Court.

Congress continues to approve the Hyde Amendment each year as a “rider” on the annual appropriations bill for the Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”). This amendment has prevented the use of taxpayer dollars for hundreds of thousands of abortions.

Nevertheless, the Hyde Amendment -- which is not a statute but requires Congressional approval every year -- remains vulnerable to attack. Pro-abortion lawmakers would love nothing more than to exclude the amendment from the next appropriations cycle, thereby allowing courts to mandate taxpayer funded abortion under Medicaid.

What’s more, pro-abortion lawmakers are finding backdoor ways to use taxpayer dollars for abortion. A prime example can be found in the health care bills currently before Congress: while the Hyde Amendment applies to programs under HHS appropriations, the health care bills will bypass the annual HHS appropriations process to fund new health care spending and entitlements. Because history has shown that where abortion is not explicitly excluded, courts will interpret legislative language to include it, health care reform must explicitly exclude mandates of any kind for abortion and explicitly state that federal funds shall not pay for abortion or for plans that cover abortion.

AUL led the way in the 1970s to stop federal tax dollars from paying for most abortions. Nearly four decades later, the battle rages on. AUL Action needs your help. Priest padlocked out of Church by idiot parishioners

That is right, the "so-called" Catholic parishioners of St. Andrews in Red Springs protested against their priest, Father Ospina and padlocked him out of the church. Things got so bad the Police Department was dispatched, and Father was escorted away "for his Saftey" In addition to the lock that had been bolted outside the side door, a sign on the glass read, "Iglesia Cerrada hasta que tengamos nuevo parroco. Justicia!!" That translates to "Church closed until we have a new priest. Justice!" Father Ospina has served as priest of the Red Springs church for about a year, and he also delivered the Spanish Mass at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Lumberton and the missionary station of St. Andrew in St. Pauls. Many parishioners say that Father doesn't make time for them. Well sounds to me like they need to be considerate that they are not his only parish, he has quite the work load. If they really want to help, try encouraging vocations and do their part as Catholics.
This is what happens when you forget what being Catholic is. Father Ospina is a good and holy priest, and is trying to give these inconsiderate protestant wanna-be nincompoops a treasure they have forgotten all about. The Tridentine Mass. That's right, the only vehicle that will allow us to be once again universal (ie: Catholic)!

The Vicar General of the Diocese of Raleigh, Monsignor David Brockman, was dispatched with a message for the unfaithful of this parish. The Bishop has shut the parish down, and will decide to reopen it when He wants to. His Excellency will personally celebrate the first Mass when the parish is re-opened. Way to go Your Excellency!

These people are not Catholic, granted I'm no saint, and am prone to sinfulness; but this just cuts the cake! Good thing this didn't happen here at our beloved parish, because the parishioners would have to be escorted away for their saftey, by Yours truly. If my brothers in blue would not take my side, I have a whole Council of Loyal and Catholic Knight's to back up Holy Mother Church. Futhermore we know better, the church is not our's it belongs to God; the priest is the caretaker of the building the same as of our souls. What blatant disrespect. Council 9001 frowns upon such actions and stands up against it.

Letter to the NC State Deputy:

Worthy State Deputy, I am Grand Knight of council 9001 in Dunn, Pepe Aguilar. I am writing this correspondence to inquire if there is anything being done to assist Father Ospina in Red Springs with his current situation. Such actions by (in this case "so- called") catholics and catholics in general is so indignant, that it deserves to be addressed approprietley; which in this case His Excellency has acted accordingly. As knights we are called to be in solidarity with our priests. We must let it be known that we do not tolerate such behavior from our members if any were present during this protest, and furthermore we should offer our support to Father Ospina. My council stands behind Fr. Ospina and every good and holy priest in this diocese, especially ours (Father Parkerson). We would ask that the State Council step in as well to support Father Ospina, and encourage every council especially those in Robeson County, and in St. Andrews parish to stand up for this good and holy priest! If we can not do what it is that we say we must do as knights, then we have failed our faith, Holy Mother Church, and God. Let us take a stand against such an injustice and humiliating act against not only Father Ospina, but against the Diocese, the Bishop, The Pope, and Holy Mother Church and ultimately God. Please respond ASAP, and do not let such a disgraceful action slip by the wayside. The State Council needs to speak out against this, just as His Excellency made his authority be known, so too must we let our courage and solidarity be known.

Response from State Council:

The official stance of the State Council is that "We will pray for Fr. Ospina". The State Council conferred with Msgr. Brockman and was advised to " let the Diocese handle the situation, whereas they are working it out with the parishioners and making them understand that Fr. Ospina is in charge of that parish. As of now there is nothing that we can do, the Diocese has everything under control. We will support Fr. Ospina and we will respond in case of an additional 'sos' signal is sent out."

Although the State Deputy agreed with me that this incident was the most humiliating thing that can happen to a priest, he assured me that if it gets out of hand then the State will step in and offer their assistance.
Council 9001 will remain vigilant and on guard in defense of Holy Mother Church and her priests. Even though this is not the exact message we were all wanting to hear (swords drawn and The Judge cocked back) at least the State Council took the initiative to speak to the Vicar General and is willing to step in, if the situation further deteriorates. Under obedience we shall remain, yet ever watchful and will further assist if anything goes array. After speaking to Fr. Ospina at mass in Wilmington he was relieved and grateful that we support him. I offered him all assurance that we will be of assistance if needed, of which he took great comfort.

Council 9001's Tridentine Silver Rose Service! Pro-Life monument Dedication

The Silver Rose made it to Dunn on August 20th just in time for Daily Mass celebrated by Father Parkerson, in extraordinary form of course! The beautiful pillow was made by the wife of Council 1074, Wilmington's Grand Knight Dave King. Good job Mrs. King! Our Council is proud to have had the Silver Rose and incorporated its meaning with the blessing and dedication of our own pro-life monument. We are also proud to have had the only Tridentine program in the State, thanks to the fervor of Father Parkerson and his ministry of the Extraordinary Form. This event had a multifaceted role for our council. Not only did it show our dedication to the Pro-Life cause, but we show our allegiance to Holy Father’s wishes as expressed in his: Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum Missa Latina. Holy Father states “Up to our own times, it has been the constant concern of supreme pontiffs to ensure that the Church of Christ offers a worthy ritual to the Divine Majesty, 'to the praise and glory of His name,' and 'to the benefit of all His Holy Church”. The Beauty and worth of the Extraordinary form is sometimes overlooked, ignored and assumed antiquated and not conforming to Vatican Two. This is a perception born in error whereas the extraordinary form was always permitted. Council 9001 affirms our belief in Pro-Life, we show solidarity to our priest and to Holy Father, and pledge our lives in service to Holy Mother Church as traditional Catholic Knights of old.

The 'Year for Priests'

In keeping with the Order's longstanding "In Solidarity With Our Priests" campaign, the Supreme Knight has called upon all Knights to actively participate in the "Year for Priests" declared by Pope Benedict XVI. The centerpiece of the Order's program for this yearlong celebration (June 19, 2009 – June 19, 2010) is a new holy card featuring a prayer for priests. The card features an icon, written by Marek Czarnecki (http://www.seraphicrestorations.com/ ), showing Christ in Mass vestments with a gold pelican over his heart, the ancient symbol of self-sacrifice. At the bottom of the icon is an altar prepared for Mass, and at the sides are Melchizedek, whose sacrifice of bread and wine prefigured the Eucharist, and St. John Vianney the patron of parish priests. The back of the card includes a prayer for priests.

Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Knights

It is a “Heavenly Portrait,” “A Miracle that Changed History,” and a window into the heart of God. What earthly object could possibly meet such a description? The tilma of St. Juan Diego, which is imprinted with the image of the Blessed Mother, under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
A small, thumb-sized portion of that tilma – or cloak – will be featured at the 127th Knights of Columbus Convention, as well as at the Marian Congress and Guadalupe Festival that follow this week in Phoenix. The tilma relic will be part of various liturgical processions and be made available for veneration by the faithful.
Throughout this convention week, the transnational reach of the Knights of Columbus and the unifying message of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be woven together in talks, images and presentations, as the Knights continue to underline the truly Catholic roots and future of the American hemisphere – North, Central and South.
Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Americas, and the Knights of Columbus, which has councils throughout Canada, the United States and Mexico, has taken on a special mission of promoting and supporting the message of Guadalupe. Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson took Our Lady of Guadalupe as the patroness of his administration when he became head of the fraternal Order in 2000.
Guadalupe On Display

At the convention center, a large display in a main corridor tells the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the tilma. The tall, eight-panel display has attracted the attention of the hundreds of convention delegates and their families, many of whom had not known the full story of the encounter in 1531 between the Blessed Mother and Juan Diego.
One afternoon, a group of adults and children from southern Texas made the rounds of the display to deepen their strong devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
“Where we come from, Our Lady of Guadalupe is everywhere, in every church, every chapel,” said Rosa Vela. “We have a great devotion to her, we love her very much.”
Her husband, Alfredo Vela, is program director for the Texas State Council. He described a procession in their hometown, Rio Grande Valley, on December 12 each year, the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. “We have thousands, who come from all around, processing to the stadium in her honor,” he said.
They were traveling with their adult daughter and other families from their area.
“We have to give our support to the Texas delegation,” Mrs. Vela explained. “We are the cheerleaders for them, for all the good work they do.”
The Miracle Explored
The Guadalupe display includes detailed information and historical images about the events of 1531, when Juan Diego, a simple native of what is now Mexico City, was met on the hill of Tepeyac and given a message for the Bishop of Mexico to build a chapel in her honor. After being turned away respectfully by the bishop, Juan Diego returned with a sign given to him by Our Lady, the miraculous image of herself imprinted on his tilma.
Other panels of the display present the scientific evidence that points to the miraculous nature of the image, beginning with the fact that the simple threads of the tilma should have frayed and decomposed centuries ago. Yet today, the tilma is on display in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, where millions visit each year to see the image that is still fresh and clear.
The final panel of the convention display tells the story of the tiny tilma relic, which is the only known portion taken from the original tilma that exists in the United States. It is encased in hard plastic and held by a chain that is draped around the neck of a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The tilma relic is on loan to the Knights of Columbus from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, which received it in the 1940s from the Mexico City Archdiocese. It is normally on display in Our Lady of the Angeles Cathedral in Los Angeles.

Vatican Cardinal Says Catholics Must Risk Discipleship

In societies that are becoming more secular and technological, Knights of Columbus, along with all Catholics, must bear witness to the fact that only God’s word can give “life-giving refreshment” to satisfy the human heart, said Cardinal William Levada in a homily on Wednesday.
A special guest at the Knights of Columbus Supreme Convention, Cardinal Levada is Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican. Formerly Archbishop of San Francisco, he was chosen by Pope Benedict XVI to replace himself as Prefect of the congregation in 2005.
The principal celebrant at the Mass, offered on the Memorial of the Dedication of the Basilica of St. Mary Major, was Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington, D.C.
Cardinal Levada said that the City of God, the “New Jerusalem” that is promised in Scripture to descend from heaven at the end of time, is not built by human hands. “The New Jerusalem does not rise up to heaven from the earth; that city is Babel, not Jerusalem,” he pointed out. “Rather, it comes down from heaven to us … we do not build heaven on earth; we simply prepare the site to welcome the New Jerusalem which comes from God.”
He made a suggestion that he said applies especially to American Catholics. Despite the many blessings and material wealth of the United States, he noted, “at times that abundance can blind people to our utter dependence on God, and the need to seek to do his will first and always.”

NC Silver Rose Run

The NC Silver Rose Run ( A traveling Icon rose in tribute to Our Lady of Guadalope ) will be arriving in Fayetteville on 19 August from Wlimington next to Dunn on the 20th. There are three Roses traveling the United States by the Knights of Columbus to meet up in Texas, then to show a symbolize of unity with our Mexico Knights there will be a crossing the International Bridge, then to its resting place at the Basilica in Monterrey, Mexico. It will be in North Carolina from August 16 until September 6, we will have 21 council that have agreed to be a part of this international program.

Letter from Congressman Mike McIntyre

I wrote to Congressman McIntyre expressing concern about the Freedom of Choice Act and received this response:

I appreciate the benefit of knowing your views on this matter, and I share your concerns.
As you know, on April 19,2007 FOCA was introduced in the House of Representatives by Jerrold Nadler and in the Senate by Senator Barbara Boxer. The measure would have codified the Court's decision in Roe by stating that a government may not deny or interfere with a woman's right to choose to bear a child, to terminate a pregnancy prior to viability, or to terminate a pregnancy after viability where termination is necessary to protect the life or hearth of the woman. The act would have also authorized an aggrieved individual to obtain appropriate relief, including relief against a government, in a civil action.
Both measures were pending before their respective Committees and at the end of the 110th Congress. No comparable measure has yet to be introduced in the 111th Congress. Please rest assurred, however, that as a member of the Pro-Life Caucus and someone who has remained committed to doing all that I can to honor life, I will keep your opposition in mind regarding FOCA should it be reintroduced in this Congress. I am pleased to share with you that I have a 100% pro-life voting record.

WoW!!! I hope he is sincere. I don't trust toooo many politicians, no farther than I can throw him. However I would hope to see more letters akin to this one I received. Thanks Congressman McIntyre!

Grand Knight 9001

2009 State Convention

Its that time of year again. Deputy Grand Knight Jimmy Grace and myself Grand Knight Pepe Aguilar are in New Bern, NC this weekend for the state convention of kofc. We will represent Council 9001, and hope that our council gets some more plaques to put on our wall! We did win 2nd place for the council award last nite at the preliminary meeting! This shows how hard we work! Thanks to Father and all the knights that worked so hard!

We exceeded our goal for OP LAMB, raising $2,670.00 for 2008! Thanks to all the Knights and Deputy Grand Knight and LAMB chair Jimmy Grace for all the hard work that was put in passing out Tootsie Rolls.

All in all it was a very motivating Convention and I look forward in passing that motivation on to every one.

Congratulations to our newly elected State Deputy Dave Jones!!! And our Newly Elected Warden Colin Jorsch!!!
