Special Olympics North Carolina is pleased to provide a report detailing the impact of generous
funding from the Knights of Columbus. Nearly every aspect of Special Olympics programming in
North Carolina at local, area, state, and regional levels is impacted by financial and volunteer support
from the Knights of Columbus. Your organization’s continued commitment to Special Olympics has
profoundly benefited thousands of children and adults with intellectual disabilities in our state, and we
are grateful for all you do.
Successful fundraising efforts by the Knights in 2008 resulted in $26,000 in support of area- and state-level events
and, incredibly, nearly $75,000 given by local councils to 44 county-based Special Olympics local programs. This triple-digit
total of more than $100,000 contributed in support of our athletes earns the distinction of Championship Sponsor of Special
Olympics as your membership continues to be an integral partner in our mission.
Children and adults with intellectual disabilities participating in Special Olympics programs in North Carolina have more opportunities,
enjoy more acceptance and inclusion, benefit from improved access to physical activity and regular exercise, and
enjoy stronger friendships and shared family ties because of the involvement of the Knights of Columbus. I thank you for
your commitment on behalf of 38,892 registered Special Olympics athletes and of thousands more whom your participation
is allowing us to reach everyday
